Lola Vice thought she was heading to AAA for a match or two. Instead, what WWE initially presented as a short-term assignment turned into nearly a full year in Mexico—and according to Vice, it ended up being the best thing that could have happened to her career.

Speaking on the No Contest Wrestling podcast, Vice reflected on how the opportunity first came together. She explained that she was in an uncertain spot in NXT when WWE approached her with the idea, and even the company wasn’t sure how long the assignment would last.

“Yeah. So, I was kind of in a weird time in NXT at that point, and I remember they came up to me and they’re like, ‘Hey, um, we might send you to Triple A. It might be, um, like one match or potentially maybe two months.’”

Rather than seeing it as a setback, Vice immediately looked at it as a chance to experience something she’d never done before. Unlike many wrestlers, she came through WWE’s system and never worked the independent scene, so the idea of wrestling outside the company excited her.

“Um, so the first thing I thought was like, ‘Oh, this is fun.’ Like, I’ve never wrestled outside of the WWE and, you know, I didn’t come from an indie background, so I’ve always wanted to see kind of how it is.”

Lola Vice also pointed out that this happened before WWE publicly announced its acquisition of AAA, making her one of the first WWE talents sent to work there.

“And this was in a time, I’m pretty sure, before the company even announced that we had bought Triple A. So I was kind of like the first one to go down there.”

Once she actually started working in Mexico, her outlook changed completely. What began as a temporary assignment quickly became somewhere she genuinely wanted to stay.

“And I remember when I went and I wrestled in Mexico, I fell in love, and I actually, like, I was like, ‘Oof, I don’t want to stop working here. I love this.’”

Vice said she made a point of treating the experience as more than just extra ring time. She wanted to improve as a performer while also representing WWE and helping AAA during the partnership.

“And I took it as an opportunity as, like, you know, to grow as a performer and entertainer, but also to represent the company and help build the show. And I learned so much behind the scenes.”

In the end, the assignment lasted far longer than anyone expected. Looking back now, Vice doesn’t hesitate to call it a turning point in her career

“But yeah, one month ended up being one year of working AAA, NXT live events. I flew over there every other weekend or more. And then, um, it was honestly the best thing to happen to my career.”

Vice has since made the jump to WWE’s main roster, but it’s clear her time in AAA played a huge role in getting her there. What started as a possible one-match trip ended up giving her valuable experience, regular reps in front of a different audience and, in her own words, the biggest boost her career has received so far.
