Roxanne Perez may have walked away from Money in the Bank empty-handed, but according to a new backstage report, WWE’s bigger plans for her apparently didn’t end when Tiffany Stratton grabbed the briefcase.
Speaking during a Self Made Session, Self Made Pro claimed WWE’s decision to switch the briefcase from Roxanne to Tiffany wasn’t just about surprising fans. According to him, the company wanted fans to feel Roxanne had been robbed because that reaction plays directly into her long-term direction.
“And so they said that they wanted to surprise the audience and also surprise the audience in a way that would make Roxanne a bigger babyface because the audience would feel that she was cheated.”
Self Made Pro said the idea is to have fans rally behind Roxanne as she moves into the biggest stretch of the WWE calendar. Rather than giving her the briefcase, WWE reportedly wants her chasing the Women’s World Championship with the audience fully behind her.
“So they want to make the audience rally around Roxanne by feeling sympathetic for her, thus making her a big babyface as she chases the belt going into WrestleMania season.”
He also made it clear that this wasn’t simply his own interpretation of events. According to Self Made Pro, the conversations he had backstage strongly suggested WWE is already looking ahead to WrestleMania 43.
“So it was implied to me that she’s going to do a Mania-season title chase.”
That lines up with his earlier report that Roxanne had originally been planned to win the Money in the Bank briefcase before WWE pivoted to Tiffany Stratton. Instead of abandoning Roxanne’s push altogether, the latest update suggests the company simply changed the path, swapping a briefcase run for a babyface championship chase heading into WrestleMania season.
If that’s the direction WWE is taking, fans may not have to wait long to see Roxanne back in the Women’s World Title picture. The briefcase may have gone to Tiffany, but according to this report, WWE’s long-term plans for Roxanne are still very much intact.
