Tonight’s WWE SmackDown, airing May 9, 2025, promises an action-packed night live from the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio. The WWE Backlash go-home show sees Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena making an appearance. WWE SmackDown Results (5/9/25): Live Match Updates and Highlights

The show opens up with Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett welcoming us. We then see Damian Priest walking towards the ring. Byron Saxton then interrupts his walk and asks him about the Backlash Fatal 4-Way Match. Priest is talking and LA Knight shows up. Knight tells Priest that anyone who gets in the way of him and his U.S. Title will receive backlash tomorrow night. Priest then says he is concerned that Knight wouldn’t have his back in the opening tag match. Knight then says if Priest has his back, he’ll have Priest’s back and Knight tells someone to hit his music. Knight then makes his way down to the ring for the first match of the night.

Damian Priest then makes his way down to the ring for the first match of the night. WWE United States Champion “The Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa then follow.

Tag Team Match: WWE United States Champion “The Samoan Werewolf” Jacob Fatu and Solo Sikoa vs. Damian Priest and “The Mega Star” LA Knight

The match starts off with Sikoa blindsiding Priest from behind. Sikoa then delivers some right hands on Priest, but Priest delivers some kicks on Sikoa and nails him. Priest then hits a crossbody on Sikoa off the top rope, but Sikoa rolls out of the ring and Priest hits a double ax handle on Sikoa off the ring steps. Fatu then gets in Priest’s face, but Knight surprises him with a tope suicida on the outside.

Fatu then nails Priest on the outside with an elbow strike, but Sikoa tags in and nails Knight on the outside. Priest then looks to tag in Knight, but discovers that Sikoa has sent him crashing onto the floor. Fatu then tags in and hits a senton on Priest, but Sikoa tags back in and runs into a leg lariat from Priest.

Knight and Fatu then tag in and Knight sends Fatu crashing into the mat with a uranage. Priest then tags himself in and Priest hits a rebound clothesline on Fatu. Priest then sets up for South of Heaven, but Knight tags himself in and begins arguing with Priest. Sikoa then nails Knight and Priest from behind and sets up for the Samoan Spike on Knight, but Knight moves out of the way and hits the BFT for the win.

After the match, Knight and Priest exchange strikes. Fatu then nails them both from behind and sends them crashing into opposite ring posts shoulder first, then hits a series of Hip Attacks on them. Drew McIntyre then appears out of nowhere and surprises Fatu with a Claymore Kick, then stands tall over him holding up the United States Championship.

We then see R-Truth standing outside with a “Let’s Go Cena!” sign. Jimmy Uso then walks up to him and tells Truth that Cena sucks. Jimmy then yeets and walks away as Truth keeps chanting for Cena.

We then see Drew McIntyre walking backstage and Saxton rushes over to talk to him. McIntyre says the U.S. Title Match should be a one-on-one match between him and Fatu. McIntyre then notes how Knight shouldn’t be in the match because he lost at WrestleMania. McIntyre then questions why Priest is in the match too because Priest lost at WrestleMania as well. McIntyre then says he wants to take the title off Fatu to become a Grand Slam Champion. McIntyre then mocks Fatu’s “All gas and no breaks” catchphrase and says he will be the next U.S. Champion.

The Secret Hervice and Chelsea Green are then shown in Nick Aldis’ office and they are mourning losing the Women’s U.S. Title. Zelina Vega and Nick Aldis then shows up. Green says Vega has no girlfriends so Vega challenges Green and Niven to a tag match. Vega then says she will bring one of her girlfriends. Green and the Secret Hervice then make their way down to the ring for the next match of the night.

We then get an Aleister Black video vignette. Black says he buried his former WWE character and what he found six feet under wasn’t death, it was the truth. Black then says he came back because he is the consequences the company needs. Black then says he’s more than a man who whispers in shadows. Black then says it’s bigger than good vs. evil because he’s there to confront everyone mentally and physically. Black then says he hasn’t figured Carmelo Hayes out yet.

Zelina Vega then makes her way down to the ring for the next match of the night and see points to the entranceway to introduce Alexa Bliss. Bliss then makes her way down to the ring for the next match of the night.

Tag Team Match: Alexa Bliss and WWE Women’s United States Champion Zelina Vega vs. Chelsea Green and The Secret Hervice’s Piper Niven

The match starts off with Niven and Vega and Niven gets the best of Vega. Green then tags in and goes for a splash, but Vega moves. Vega then goes to work on Green, setting up Vega and Niven for a double 619. Vega then hits it and gets a two count out of it. Vega then teases tagging Bliss into the match, but Green attacks Vega. As a result, the heels get the upper hand and Green tags in Niven, who puts Vega down. The heels then salute to the crowd.

Vega is crawling towards Bliss, but Niven cuts off Vega. Niven then lifts Vega, but Vega counters with a DDT and Bliss gets the hot tag. Green then tags in too and Bliss works over Green with a series of strikes and even a dragon-screw leg-whip. Bliss then hits a Blockbuster on Green for a two count. Bliss then runs into an elbow and Green climbs to the top, but Bliss cuts off Green and dropkicks Green. Bliss then hits the Twisted Bliss on Green, but Niven breaks up a pin attempt. Vega then hits a Code Red on Niven. Bliss then follows that up with a Sister Abagail DDT on Green for the win.

We then see Rey Fenix run into Santos Escobar backstage and Fenix reminds Escobar that he beat him last week. Escobar then says he has something to say and Los Garza attacks Fenix. They then sends him into road cases. Andrade then shows up and shows some concern for Fenix.

We then see an SUV pull up to the arena and Charlotte Flair steps out of it.

We then get a video package on John Cena and Randy Orton’s history.

Charlotte Flair then makes her way down to the ring. Charlotte starts off by telling Dayton that their queen has arrived. Charlotte then says she had the greatest match in WrestleMania history and recalls how she was out for two years, but still took Tiffany to her limit. A photo of Tiffany at WrestleMania is then shown on the big screen. Charlotte says she was there to announce her path to the WWE Women’s Championship. Charlotte then says she’s the GOAT of women’s wrestling. Charlotte then says if the crowd continues to be disrespectful she will leave Dayton and never come back. Charlotte then throws the microphone down and leaves the ring. As Charlotte leaves, Jade Cargill’s music hit and Cargill makes her way out. Charlotte then stands in the entranceway and both women have a stare-down. Cargill then gets a microphone once she steps into the ring and tells Charlotte to head to the back of line because Charlotte had her chance.

We then see Charlotte Flair and Nick Aldis walking and talking backstage. Aldis tells Charlotte to be a leader, not leave and not throw a temper tantrum. Charlotte then gets back to her SUV to leave and we see Alexa Bliss standing there. Bliss then tells Charlotte that they should chat.

Nia Jax then makes her way down to the ring for the next match of the night and Jade Cargill is already standing there.

WWE Women’s Championship #1 Contender’s Match: Jade Cargill vs. “The Irresistible Force” Nia Jax

Before the match officially begins, Tiffany Stratton’s music hit and Tiffany makes her way out to ringside. Stratton then sits next to the commentary desk, but she did not sit in on commentary. Cargill and Jax then locked up. Jax then jaws at Tiffany and turns her attention back to Cargill, taking Cargill down repeatedly. Jax then mocks Cargill’s pose. Cargill then hits a flying shoulder tackle, which takes Jax down. Jax then bounces back and hits a Samoan Drop on Cargill before hitting a leg drop for a two count.

Jax then goes to sit on Cargill, but Cargill moves. Cargill then lifts Jax and hits a Samoan Drop on Jax. Cargill then suplexes Jax and hits a superkick and a spinebuster on her for a two count. Cargill then goes for a boot, but Jax counters into a powerbomb. Jax then stands on the second rope, but Cargill cuts her off and presses Jax to the mat. Cargill then climbs to the top and hits a frog splash on Jax for a near fall. Cargill then tries to set up for Jaded, but Jax sends Cargill across the ring. Cargill then comes right back with a running kick on Jax’s head. Out of nowhere, Naomi appears and attacks Stratton. Cargill then sees Naomi and takes her attention away from Jax. As a result, Jax attacks Cargill and hit her with the An-Nia-Lator for the win.

We then see The Street Profits walking backstage and they run into Michin and B-Fab. Michin and B-Fab tell the Profits that they look banged up, but they still look good. Montez Ford then says something brief and the Profits continue their walk to the ring.

We then get a Becky Lynch video vignette.

WWE Tag Team Champions The Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins) then make their way down to the ring. Ford starts off by saying the Profits have been the talk of the town and they put on the greatest TLC match of all time a couple weeks ago. Ford then says that’s right the guerrilla fears us. Ford then says what happened is what will always happen and it’s that the Street Profits will come out on top. Fraxiom’s music then hits and they make their way out with microphones. Nathan Frazer says it feels good to be on Friday Night SmackDown.

Frazer then says the Profits could be the best tag team in the game right now. Fraxiom then steps into the ring and says Shawn Michaels told them to take any opportunity they get. Axiom then says the tag titles will look great on Fraxiom. Dawkins then says Fraxiom has won only two matches and wonders if they really think they deserve a title shot. Ford then yells about Fraxiom wanting a title shot. Aldis then walks out and books a match between Fraxiom and the Profits. A referee then makes their way out.

Non-Title Match: WWE Tag Team Champions The Street Profits (Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins) vs. Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom)

The match starts off with Frazer having the upper hand and working over Dawkins. The action then spills outside and Dawkins sends Frazer into the corner of the commentary desk. Axiom then checks on Frazer and rolls Frazer back into the ring to beat the count. Ford then tags in and hits a splash on Frazer while selling a rib pain. Ford then kicks the back of Frazer and tags in Dawkins, who hits a splash on Frazer for a two count.

Dawkins then hits his spinning splash on Frazer in a corner for a two count. Frazer fires up and kicks Dawkins before tagging Axiom into the match. Fraxiom then hits a flurry of moves, including dives to the outside. Frazer and Axiom then fires up the crowd. Frazer and Dawkins are now both down in the middle of the ring.

Axiom and Ford then tags in and Ford hits a bunch of clotheslines on Axiom. Ford then hits a back suplex and continues to sell his rib pain before hitting a standing moonsault for a two count. Axiom then kicks Ford and Frazer tags in. Frazer then rolled up Ford quickly, but runs into a kick on the head from Ford. Ford is perched on the top rope and Frazer goes to the top with him. Dawkins then tags himself in and puts Frazer on his shoulders. From there, they hit the super Blockbuster on Frazer, but Axiom breaks up the pin attempt.

Ford then goes to the top, but jumps into a kick from Axiom. Dawkins then kicks Axiom. The match then breaks down and Frazer runs into a punch from Dawkins. With Dawkins on the top rope, Axiom hits a Spanish Fly and Frazer follows it up with a Phoenix Splash. Ford then breaks up the pin attempt while attacking Axiom and all four men are down to reset the match. Dawkins then runs into a Golden Ratio from Axiom on the outside of the ring. Ford then goes to the top rope inside the ring and misses a frog splash. Fraxiom then hits the Catapulta Infernal and Axiom pins Ford for the win.

After the match, both teams shakes hands inside the ring and they all raised their arms together.

We then see Tiffany Stratton looking for people backstage and she runs into Nia Jax. Tiffany says she will save a spot at the loser’s table for Jax and it will be right next to Charlotte Flair.

We then get a video package on GUNTHER vs. Pat McAfee.

We then see The Miz talking to Carmelo backstage and tells him it’s all about him and showing everyone that Carmelo is the 10th Wonder Of The World. Miz then says Carmelo will run the play exactly as he designed them. Miz then keeps asking Carmelo who’s him. Carmelo then responds. Miz then yells. Miz and Carmelo then make their way down to the ring for the next match of the night.

Aleister Black then makes his way down to the ring for the next match of the night.

Singles Match: Aleister Black vs. Carmelo Hayes

The match starts off with both men standing in their respective corners. Both men then lock up and trade hold attempts. Carmelo then goes for a springboard splash, but Black moves and both men stare at each other for a few seconds. Black then kicks Carmelo and Carmelo ends up on the outside. Black then follows it up with a moonsault onto the floor. Black then returns to the ring to break the count and runs at Carmelo, but misses and gets hung up on the crowd barrier. Carmelo then dropkicks Black over the barrier and poses, then sends him back inside the ring..

Black then delivers some right and left hands on Hayes, but Hayes climbs to the top rope. Black then nails Hayes with a boot and delivers some strikes with him, then hits a moonsault and goes for a pin. Hayes then kicks out and hits Black with a superkick and sends him crashing into the mat face first. Black then responds with a Brainbuster on Hayes, but Hayes looks to hit a kick on Black. Black then moves out of the way and Hayes accidentally hits The Miz on the apron. This then opens the door for Black to roll up Hayes for the win.

After the match, Black hits The Miz with a Black Mass out of nowhere.

Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu are then shown talking in a dark area backstage. Sikoa says they need a plan for Backlash and Fatu flips out. Fatu then ends by calming down and says he’s all gas and no breaks. Fatu then asks Sikoa if he knew what he meant and Sikoa says he did. Fatu then walks away.

We then see Fraxiom run into MCMG backstage and MCMG says it will eventually be the both of them facing each other, but #DIY shows up and attacks both teams. Ciampa and Gargano then focuses more on Fraxiom and lectures them before storming off.

Legado Del Fantasma then make their way down to the ring for the main event of the night and Rey Fenix and Andrade follow.

Tag Team Match: Rey Fenix and Andrade vs. Los Garza (Angel and Berto)

The match starts off with Rey Fenix and Los Garza puts the boots on him. Berto is the legal man and he goes to work on Fenix, including hitting a dropkick for a two count. Berto then lifts Fenix, but Fenix knees his way out of it and tags in Andrade. Angel then tags himself in and Berto knocks Fenix and Andrade to the outside. Berto and Angel then goes to the top and hit double moonsaults on Andrade and Fenix on the ringside floor.

Angel then sends Andrade’s leg bouncing off the ring post, but Fenix and Angel tag in. Fenix then gets Angel up on his shoulders, but Angel escapes. Andrade then takes down Angel, but Berto nails Andrade with a springboard enzuigiri. Berto then rolls up Fenix, but the referee misses the fall after being distracted by Escobar. Fenix then hits the Adios Amigo on Berto and Andrade follows it up with The Message for the win.

After the match, Escobar enters the ring and scolds Berto, who slaps Escobar’s hand away from his chest. Berto then leaves the ring and Angel looks confused. Berto then storms to the back and Angel remains in the ring with Escobar.

Commentary then runs down the card for tomorrow’s Backlash PLE.

Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena’s music then hits and he makes his way down to the ring. Cena then grabs a mic and starts off by making Mark Nash redo his ring announcement in grand fashion, then says the childhood of the fans will die tomorrow. Cena then says they will do everything they can just like Randy Orton and he first wrestled Orton 25 years ago and they a the two men who define what “Ruthless Aggression” means. Cena then calls Orton a liar and says the person he has been lying to is himself for all of these years. Cena then says Orton is the greatest of all time at wasting his potential while he is hustle and loyalty. Cena then says Orton is the greatest of all time at doing the bare minimum, but he is the greatest of all time because he embodies respect. Cena then takes shots at Bob Orton Jr., then says Orton will kill the legend of himself tomorrow.

A hooded figure then looks to hit an RKO on Cena, but Cena sees them coming and hits an Attitude Adjustment on them. The real Orton then blindsides Cena from behind and hits an RKO on him, then stands tall holding up the Undisputed WWE Championship as the show comes to a close.
