Tonight’s WWE SmackDown, airing January 31, 2025, promises an action-packed night live from the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Royal Rumble go-home show will see WWE Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green defend her title against Michin. Plus, the Motor City Machine Guns and Los Garza will face WWE Tag Team Champions #DIY and Pretty Deadly in 8-Man Tag Team action.
The show kicks off at 8:00 PM ET on the USA Network and is available for international fans on streaming platforms like Netflix. The show opens up with Michael Cole welcoming us as footage of the city of Indianapolis was shown. We then see the arrivals of Liv Morgan, Naomi, Bianca Belair, Michin, Chelsea Green and Damian Priest from earlier in the day.
Cole was at a small desk in the crowd and introduces Pat McAfee, then says McAfee is the reason the Royal Rumble will be in Indianapolis this year. McAfee then makes his way out and stands at the small desk with Cole. The crowd then chants “McAfee!” and McAfee calls Indianapolis the greatest host city on earth. McAfee then says the city is world-class and it has hosted Final Fours, National Championships and the like and the people here are the best in the world. McAfee then says he is so damn thankful to be here. Cole then sends it to Joe Tessitore in the ring.
Kevin Owens’ music then hits and he makes his way down to the ring. Tessitore says it’s difficult to look past Owens’ latest actions. Tessitore then plays up the idea that he plays a big role covering wrestlers, so he wanted to give Owens fair time. Tessitore then asks Owens what everyone was missing about how Owens feels about Cody. Owens then begins to talk and the crowd starts to drown him out with boos. Owens then calls Tessitore a Cody Rhodes fan boy and laments that everyone is talking about how they will face Cody at WrestleMania, but Owens says he will win the title at the Rumble and go onto WrestleMania himself.
Owens then asks Tessitore if he thought he is a tough guy and Owens did not accept Tessitore’s initial apology for not giving him mic time. Owens then grabs the Winged Eagle Championship as it is hanging in the middle of the ring and goes to leave, but CM Punk’s music hit and Punk makes his way out. Owens looks less than thrilled. Punk then grabs a microphone and the crowd loudly chants “CM Punk!” and Punk takes it in. Owens and Punk then stands silent and starts to stare at each other for a minute while “Holy s**t” chants broke out in the crowd.
Owens then asks Punk can I help you and Punk says no Owens couldn’t help him. Punk then says he knows how annoying it can be to be interrupted. Punk then apologizes to Owens for acting like it was a foregone conclusion that Cody Rhodes will beat him. Punk then says that’s not the case. Punk then says when he wins the Royal Rumble, the main event of WrestleMania could be Owens vs. Punk for the WWE Championship. Punk then tells Owens that he will be coming for him if he wins and that his title reign will not last long.
Owens then says he felt conflicted because on one hand there are 29 guys in the Rumble that he likes more than Punk. Owens then says the thought of Punk vs. Owens in the main event at WrestleMania or Owens beating Punk’s ass at WrestleMania appeals to him. Owens then plays up the fact that all Punk wants to do is main event WrestleMania and it’s right at Punk’s fingertips. Owens then says the idea of Punk never getting to main event WrestleMania is so good to Owens. Owens then says he loves the thought of Punk never completing that dream. Owens then steps towards Punk and says Punk will go to his grave as a miserable failure. Owens then says he hopes Punk doesn’t win the Royal Rumble and dropped the mic to leave.
Punk then keeps going. Owens is standing on the ring apron. Punk says he had never lost five title matches at the Royal Rumble while Owens has. Punk then says he had never lost to Logan Paul, but Owens has. Punk then says he had never tried to manipulate his best friend to help him win a title, but Owens has taken short cuts. Punk then notes how he has to throw 29 other people over the top rope while Owens has to survive a pissed off Cody Rhodes in a ladder match. Punk then invites Owens back into the ring and says he will kick his ass. Punk then tells Owens to not be afraid. Owens then drops his mic and Punk does too. Owens then teases getting into the ring and instead walks away with the Winged Eagle Championship. Punk’s music then hits to end the segment.
We then head to the back, where The Miz is talking to Nick Aldis and says if Andrade is standing right there right now, he will punch Andrade in the face. Andrade then asks if Miz if he issued a challenge. Andrade then suggests The Miz vs. Andrade for later tonight and Miz says if Andrade wants a lesson in greatness, that will be fine. Aldis then makes the match for later tonight.
Carmelo Hayes then makes his way down to the ring with a microphone for the next match of the night and calls Jimmy Uso not “The One,” but “The Two.” Carmelo then says he won’t miss because his name isn’t Tyrese Halliburton. The show then shows the Indiana Pacers star sitting in the front row. Jimmy Uso then tries to jumpstart the match, but Carmelo quickly counters and the first match of the night is under way.
The match starts off with Hayes flying to stomp on Jimmy in the corner. Hayes then nails Jimmy, but Jimmy sends Hayes into the ropes and clotheslines him out of the ring. Jimmy then looks to fly, but Hayes sees him coming and nails him with a clothesline. Hayes then charges at Jimmy in the corner, but Jimmy moves out of the way and looks to send Hayes crashing into the mat. Hayes then counters into a DDT.
Hayes then flies over the top rope to land on Jimmy on the outside, but Jimmy nails Hayes with an enzuigiri back inside the ring and the two teeter on the ropes. Jimmy then hits a Hip Toss-neckbreaker combination on Hayes off the ropes, but Hayes responds with The First 48. Jimmy then looks to fly off the top, but Hayes counters into a roll up. Jimmy then kicks out, but Hayes climbs back to the top and hits a splash on Jimmy. Hayes then goes for another pin, but Jimmy kicks out. Jimmy then gets Hayes up on his shoulders as they teeter on the ropes, but Hayes rolls up Jimmy with his hand on the ropes. The referee then catches Hayes and Jimmy reverses the fall for the win.

Commentary then speaks at ringside about the Royal Rumble. Tessitore says it will be the first time the Rumble has been held in a current NFL team’s stadium. Tessitore then adds that there are expected to be 65,000 in attendance.
We then get a Royal Rumble “By The Numbers” video.
Chelsea Green is then interviewed by Byron Saxton backstage. Green says last week Michin tried to destroy the face of the United States and tonight she will return the favor. Green then says she will win the Royal Rumble tomorrow night. Green also calls Piper Niven her “Secret Hervice.”
We then get the entrances of the next match of the night, which is a WWE Women’s United States Championship Match.
The match starts off with both women traded pin attempts and Green rolls outside the ring, then rolls back into it. Michin then hits a series of German Suplexes and Green goes to the outside, where Michin hits a dive through the ropes. Michin then goes for Eat Defeat, but Green gets away from it. Michin then nails Green until Green pushes Michin over the top and to the outside. Green then gets a chin-lock on Michin and a head-lock.
Michin then fights back with a series of kicks, including a running strike. Michin then sets up for the Long Back Attack and hits a Cannonball and gets a two count out of it. Both women then trade pin attempts until Michin hits Green with the Eat Defeat, but Green rolls to the outside. B-Fab then rolls Green back into the ring, but Green escapes again and Michin chases after her. Green then keeps running away and finds a kendo stick, then hits Michin with it to end the match.

After the match, Michin gets a hold of the stick and nails Green with it.
We then head to the back, where Byron Saxton is interviewing Bianca Belair and Naomi. Saxton asks what will happen if Naomi and Belair are the final two in the Rumble on Saturday. They both says they will support each other no matter the outcome. Saxton then notes how Liv and Raquel have their eyes on the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
We then get another Charlotte Flair video vignette. Flair sits on a plane and speaks about how she stayed on top for ten years and wouldn’t let the year she missed due to injury define her. Flair then says she is fortunate, blessed, history making, ground breaking, never scared, always prepared, self-made, always paid and is the woman in WWE.
Damian Priest then makes his way down to the ring for an in-ring promo. Priest says he started on RAW four years ago and wanted his name to live forever. Priest then speaks about going from being a betrayer to being betrayed and from being a follower to a leader and finally to becoming World Heavyweight Champion. Priest then says he’s a Smackdown wrestler now and the goal is gold. Priest then says he will have to throw asses over the top rope during the Rumble match and become a world champion at WrestleMania. Priest is then interrupted by Jacob Fatu’s entrance music.
Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga then make their way down to the ring. Wade Barrett says Fatu and Tonga have been unhinged without their leader Solo Sikoa. Fatu then tells Priest that people will lay down or get beatdown because he and Tonga are running WWE now. Priest then then that’s it is that supposed to intimidate me. Priest then tells Fatu that he should know better because Fatu knows where he’s from. Priest then says Fatu is from the streets as well and asks why they were even talking. Priest then hits Tonga with a kick. Fatu then looks down at Tonga and then looks up at Priest and smiles. Priest then tosses the mic aside and holy s**t chants break out.
Priest and Fatu then exchange punches. Priest then starts to get the better of it when Tonga hits him from behind. Fatu then nails some kicks at Priest, who is seated in a corner of the ring. Tonga then grabs a chair from ringside. LA Knight then makes his way down to the ring and kicks the chair into the face of Tonga. Knight then swings the chair at Fatu, who punches the chair out of Knight’s hand. Priest then kicks Fatu and Knight picks up the chair and nails it on Fatu’s back. Knight then grabs a mic and challenges Fatu and Tonga to a match later in the night.
We then head to the back, where The Motor City Machine Guns approaches Legado Del Fantasma (Santos Escobar, Elektra Lopez, Angel and Berto). Sabin says he knows LDF doesn’t care for them and they are not too fond of them either, but they have a big 8-Man tag match. Escobar then speaks to his team in Spanish. Escobar then says the Guns have their shot at gold at the Rumble, whereas he has to win the Rumble match to get his shot. Escobar then says they are still fighting for what they deserve. Shelley then says they will have the backs of Los Garza. Berto then says they know how to handle their business. Angel then says if Sabin and Shelley win the tag team titles at the Rumble, then he and Berto will be coming after them.
#DIY and Pretty Deadly then make their way down to the ring for the next match of the night, which is an 8-Man Tag Team Match.
Highlights are then shown of Shawn Michaels, The Undertaker and Stephanie McMahon surprising Paul “Triple H” Levesque at WWE Headquarters with the news that he will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
Motor City Machine Guns and Legado Del Fantasma then make their way down to the ring.
The match starts off with Tommaso Ciampa and Alex Shelley. Ciampa then tags out to Elton Prince. Shelley then tags in Berto and Prince locks up with Berto. Kit Wilson then tags in and Wilson hits Berto with a back elbow. Ciampa then tags in, but Berto nails him with an enzuigiri. Shelley then tags himself in and Motor City Machine Guns double team on Ciampa before everyone begins brawling with one another.
Pretty Deadly then delivers some shots on Chris Sabin on the outside and Wilson hits a stomp on him in the corner. Ciampa then tags in and continues wearing down Sabin, then tags in Prince. Ciampa then delivers some stomps on Sabin, but Sabin nails both Prince and Wilson. Angel then tags in and hits a kick on Wilson, then follows it up with a hurricanrana on him and sends Prince crashing into the mat face first.
Berto then hits a sit-out powerbomb on Gargano and pins him, but Gargano kicks out. Los Garza then leaves ringside with Elektra Lopez and Sabin looks to tag in Shelley. Gargano then pulls Shelley off the apron before he can and Ciampa looks to hit a boot on Sabin in the corner. Sabin then ducks out of the way and Ciampa accidentally hits Elton Prince. Ciampa then looks to tag in Wilson, but Wilson checks on Prince. Sabin then takes advantage and rolls up Ciampa for the win.

Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett then hypes the upcoming matches and says the Damian Priest and LA Knight vs. Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga match is official. Tessitore then hypes the ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble. Tessitore then says Barrett will be on commentary with Michael Cole and Pat McAfee.
Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga are then shown walking backstage and see the tag titles laid out on a road case. Ciampa and Gargano then walks up and grabbed them. Tonga then screams at #DIY. Ciampa then runs and yells at Pretty Deadly. Gargano then says the tag title match at the Rumble is the biggest match of their lives. Elton Prince then tells Gargano and Ciampa that tomorrow night they will be on their own.
Michael Cole and Pat McAfee are then shown at their tiny desk and McAfee introduces Tyrese Halliburton, who joins the two at the tiny desk in the crowd. Halliburton says he is excited to have the Rumble in his town. McAfee then notes how it’s Pacers vs. Hawks at 5 p.m. tomorrow and wonders if we can see Halliburton in the Rumble. Halliburton says the plan is to beat the Hawks and then show up at Lucas Oil. Footage of Cole and Cody crowdsurfing earlier in the day is then shown.
We then get a video package on the Kevin Owens vs. Cody Rhodes feud.
Naomi then makes her way down to the ring with Bianca Belair for the next match of the night, which is a Singles Match. Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez then make their way down to the ring.
The match starts off with Morgan nailing Naomi. Naomi then hits an arm drag on Morgan, but Naomi responds with a hurricanrana and hits a kick on Morgan. Naomi then follows it up with a split legged leg drop and goes for a pin, but Morgan kicks out. Morgan then sends Naomi into the corner, then hits her with The Three Amigos and wears her down with a Sleeper. Naomi then nails Morgan with a kick to her head, then nails her with a couple of back elbows and sends her crashing into the top turnbuckle face first. Naomi then hits a crossbody on Morgan off the middle rope and goes for a pin, but Morgan kicks out.
Morgan then sends Naomi crashing into the mat with a hair whip, then hits her with a running step-up knee to her in the corner and follows it up with a Codebreaker off the middle rope. Morgan then goes for a pin, but Naomi kicks out. Naomi then hits the Rear View on Morgan and drags her into the corner, then looks to fly. Rodriguez then jumps up on the apron, but Belair pulls her off. Naomi then looks to hits a Split Legged Moonsault, but Morgan sees her coming and rolls up Morgan. Naomi then reverses into a fall of her own for the win.

After the match, Rodriguez attacks Naomi and Belair from behind. Morgan then joins in and the two double team on Belair to take her down. Rodriguez then stacks Naomi on top of Belair, then powerbombs Morgan on top of both of them.
We then get a video recapping the Jacob Fatu vs. Braun Strowman match from SNME.
The Miz then makes his way down to the ring for the next match of the night, which is a Singles Match. Andrade then makes his way down to the ring.
The match starts off with both men locking up. Andrade then hits The Miz with a shoulder tackle, then follows it up with a hurricanrana. The Miz then delivers a few stomps on Andrade in the corner, then nails him with a hurricanrana of his own off the ropes and looks to hit a dropkick through the middle rope. Andrade then avoids it and hits a tijeras on The Miz on the outside, then follows it up with a springboard moonsault.
The Miz then sends Andrade out of the ring, then sends him crashing into the barricade twice and sends him back in the ring. The Miz then climbs up the ropes and hits a double ax handle on Andrade, then wears him down with a submission hold and follows it up with a neckbreaker. The Miz then hits a couple of kicks on Andrade’s spine, then follows it up with the Miz Kicks.
Andrade then responds with a Dragon Screw and nails The Miz, then follows it up with a meteora. The Miz then hits Andrade with a Tornado DDT, but Andrade responds with a Spanish Fly off the top rope and looks to hit a moonsault off the top. The Miz then avoids it, but Andrade nails him with a back elbow for the win.

We then head to the back, where Damian Priest runs into Santos Escobar. Priest says he is wondering why Escobar is even talking to him in the first place. Escobar then tells Priest that he will see him around. R-Truth then appears and tells Priest they are at RAW. Priest then tells Truth to never change and turns into LA Knight. Shinsuke Nakamura is seen standing in the shadows as Knight and Priest is talking to each other. Truth then jumps in and says “Welcome to RAW!” to both Knight and Priest.
WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton is then shown walking and she runs into Zelina Vega, who says she has her eyes on Tiffany’s title. Tiffany then talks down to Vega and it turns out Stratton is going to talk to Cole and McAfee next.
Pat McAfee and Michael Cole are in the ring and Cole introduces Tiffany Stratton, who makes her way down to the ring. Cole asks Tiffany how her life has changed since she won the WWE Women’s Championship. Tiffany says she has always been championship material. Stratton then says now everybody knows she’s championship material. McAfee then says everybody wants what she has and McAfee lists off wrestlers who might win the Royal Rumble, including Nia Jax. Tiffany then says it doesn’t matter who wins because it will always be Tiffy Time.
As Tiffany continues to talk, Candice LeRae’s music hits and LeRae makes her way out with a microphone. LeRae then calls Tiffany pathetic and says Tiffany doesn’t deserve to even say Nia’s name. LeRae then says Tiffany betrayed both Jax and her. The crowd then starts the “WHAT?” treatment as LeRae steps into the ring and calls Tiffany jealous. LeRae then tells Tiffany to enjoy what little bit of Tiffy Time she has left. LeRae then says she has entered the Rumble. Tiffany then backs LeRae into a corner and Jax tries to attack Tiffany, but Tiffany moved and Jax splashes LeRae. Jax then rebounds quickly and hits a leg drop and her finisher on Tiffany. Jax then stands tall to end the segment.
Commentary then runs down the card for the Royal Rumble.
Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga then make their way down to the ring for the main event of the night and Damian Priest and LA Knight follows.
The match starts off with Knight and Priest taking down Tama and Fatu. Priest then delivers some strikes on Tama. Fatu and Knight then tag in and Fatu delivers some stomps on Knight in the corner. Priest then tags in and Fatu hits a splash on him in the corner, then follows it up with a Hip Attack and tags in Tama. Tama then delivers some right hands on Priest, but Fatu tags back in and wears Priest down with a submission. Fatu then hits an uppercut on Priest and charges at him in the corner. Priest then intercepts Fatu with a boot.
Knight then tags in and hits a DDT on Fatu. Knight then follows it up with an elbow drop off the middle rope and sets up for BFT, but Fatu avoids it and tags in Tama. Tama then hits a suplex on Knight, then delivers some right hands on Fatu and stomps on his neck. Fatu then tags in and hits a splash on Knight in the corner, then tags in Tama. Tama then rakes the back of Knight’s neck and rakes his eyes, then hits him with a spear and tags in Fatu.
Knight then hits a back suplex on Fatu, then tags in Priest. Tama then tags in on his side and Priest hits a crossbody on him off the top rope. Tama then responds with a DDT and pins him, but Knight breaks the fall. Priest then hits the South of Heaven on Tama for the win.

After the match, Fatu returns to the ring and superkicks Priest, who bounces off the ropes. Fatu then hits Priest with a Popup Powerbomb. Fatu then follows it up with a double jump moonsault. Fatu then stands tall in the ring as the show comes to a close.
