Tonight’s WWE SmackDown, airing January 24, 2025, promises an action-packed night live from the Moody Centre in Austin, Texas. The show will see “The Mega Star” LA Knight take on Tama Tonga in a singles match. Plus, the Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) face Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) in tag team action.

WWE SmackDown Results (1/24/25): Live Match Updates and Highlights

The show opens up with Joe Tessitore welcoming us as outdoor shots of Texas are shown. We then see the arrivals of Tama Tonga, Jacob Fatu, LA Knight and WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton. Tessitore is standing in the middle of the ring and he introduces Undisputed WWE Champion “The American Nightmare” Cody Rhodes and Rhodes makes his way down to the ring to address the WWE Universe.

Cody Rhodes is asked about his title match against Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble and the contract signing tomorrow at Saturday Night’s Main Event with WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels as the moderator. Rhodes voices his respect for Shawn Michaels given that he is being entrusted with his Undisputed WWE Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Rhodes then says with WrestleMania 41 right around the corner, he intends on walking into the Premium Live Event with his title. After being asked another question by Tessitore, Rhodes says that Kevin Owens is a genius between the ropes and a great athlete, but when he is faced with the choice of an easy way out or the hard way, he will always choose the easy way out.

Rhodes then says Owens can’t take the easy way out on February 1 and be disqualified by a referee in a Ladder Match. Tessitore then asks Rhodes what message he would send to Owens if he could and Rhodes says he may be trying to be a good guy, but when a button is pressed, Owens should be reminded that he has defeated the likes of GUNTHER and Roman Reigns. Rhodes then says before he became the current version of himself, he was a student of Randy Orton and wishes Owens good luck.

We then head to the back, where #DIY and Pretty Deadly are talking and Johnny Gargano tells Pretty Deadly they wouldn’t be able to help them later because he has a match against Apollo Crews. Tommaso Ciampa then tells Pretty Deadly to handle their business. Gargano then tells Pretty Deadly they believe in them. #DIY then walks away and Pretty Deadly runs into Legado Del Fantasma, who stares them down. No words were exchanged.

MCMG then make their way down to the ring for the first match of the night. Pretty Deadly then make their way down to the ring.

Tag Team Match: Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) vs. Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince)

The match starts off with Elton Prince and Chris Sabin and Sabin sends Prince crashing into the mat with a couple of arm drags. Alex Shelley then tags in and hits a double kick on Prince with Sabin, but Prince bodyslams Shelley into the mat and tags in Wilson. Shelley then delivers some right and left hands on Wilson, then tags Sabin back in. Motor City Machine Guns then nail Wilson with a double shoulder tackle and a double flapjack before the action spills out of the ring and Pretty Deadly gloat as they stand tall over the Motor City Machine Guns.

The action then returns to the ring and Wilson tags in. Wilson wears Sabin down with a submission, then nails Sabin with a clothesline and tags in Prince. Prince then wears Sabin down with the same submission, then tags Wilson back in. Pretty Deadly then double teams on Sabin and Wilson hits a stomp on Sabin in the corner before delivering right hands on him.

Prince then tags in and delivers some strikes on Sabin in the corner. Wilson then tags in, but Sabin hits a dropkick on him and tags in Shelley. Shelley then delivers some strikes on Prince, then tags Sabin in. Sabin then continues wearing down Prince, then tags Shelley back in. Wilson then climbs to the top and Pretty Deadly hits a facebuster-Bulldog on Shelley. Sabin then hits a dropkick on Prince off the middle rope and Motor City Machine Guns double team on Wilson. Shelley and Sabin then hit Skull and Bones on Wilson for the win.

We then head to the back, where The Miz is shown having a conversation with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis. Miz says Tessitore does a great interview, but it’s not Miz TV. Aldis then informs Miz he is now on SmackDown permanently. Miz then talks about how the Wyatts are on SmackDown and flips out. Aldis then tells Miz he will need to make new friends and make them fast.

We then get a video package and a tale of the tape on the Braun Strowman vs. Jacob Fatu Match taking place at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

Kevin Owens then appears out of nowhere as Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett are talking at the commentary desk. Owens berates Tessitore for interviewing Cody and not him. Owens then asks why everyone wants to be Cody’s friend because all Cody does is betray his fans. Owens then says he will prove at the Royal Rumble that he is the true WWE champion. Matthew McConaughey is in the crowd and starts jawing with Owens. Jimmy Uso’s music then hits and Jimmy makes his way out. Jimmy steps into the ring and Owens asks Jimmy why he is there. Jimmy then says it is because Owens talks too damn much and then he attacks Owens. Jimmy then goes to the top rope, but Owens rolls out of the ring with the Winged Eagle belt. Jimmy then gets on the mic and asks Owens where he is going. Jimmy then challenges Owens to a match for later tonight.

WWE Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green is then shown walking backstage, flanked by Piper Niven.

Carmelo Hayes is then shown talking to Nick Aldis in his office. Hayes was supposed to face Jimmy Uso later, so he was angry about it. Aldis says he has an opponent for Hayes, but Hayes says he wants to meet his opponent instead of waiting until he gets in the ring because the last time that happened Braun Strowman came out. Hayes then says he will wait to see who shows up.

Chelsea Green and Piper Niven then make their way down to the ring for the next match of the night and Michin and B-Fab follows.

Tag Team Match: WWE Women’s United States Champion Chelsea Green and Piper Niven vs. Michin and B-Fab

The match starts off with Michin and Piper Niven and both women lock up. Green then tags in and Michin looks to hit a cannonball on her, but Green moves out of the way and hits a suplex. Michin then nails Green with a kick to her head, but Niven tags in and looks to hit a senton on Michin. Michin then rolls out of the way and tags in B-Fab as Green tags in on her side.

B-Fab then hits a roundhouse kick on Green in the corner, then follows it up with a DDT and goes for a pin. Niven then kicks out, but Green and Michin tag in. Green then sets up for The Un-Pretty-Her, but Michin escapes and hits Eat Defeat for the win.

Carmelo Hayes is still in Nick Aldis’ office and Damian Priest shows up and Aldis asks Priest if he is interested in a one-on-one match with Hayes later. Priest says he is there to work and it looks like Priest is the newest member of the SmackDown roster.

WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton is then shown walking backstage.

We then get another Charlotte Flair video vignette for the second week in a row. This time, Charlotte Flair cuts a promo. Flair says the GOAT doesn’t have to call themselves the GOAT. Flair then says she built a legacy nobody can touch and she knows exactly who she is. Flair then says she is back. Flair then says she will enter the Royal Rumble with a smile on her face and tear in her eye and she will tell everyone who owns the nights. Flair then ends her promo with a “woo.”

WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton then makes her way down to the ring. Stratton starts off by saying once again she is the center of attention. Stratton then says she isn’t worried about who wins the Royal Rumble because things will still operate on Tiffy Time. Rhea Ripley’s music then hits and Ripley makes her way out. Ripley says she knows Tiffany was still new here, but she wanted Tiffany to know she is a women’s champion too. Ripley then says she respects what Tiffany did to Nia Jax, but it won’t compare to what she will do to her at SNME. Nia Jax’s music then hits and Jax makes her way out with Candice LeRae.

Jax says she doesn’t understand why she is catching strays. Jax then officially declares for the Royal Rumble match. Jax then looks at a kid in the entranceway and says your mom sucks kid. Jax then says she will beat Ripley at SNME. Jax then says she will take back Tiffany’s title eventually because that title is hers. As Jax steps into the ring, Bianca Belair’s music hits and she makes her way out with Naomi.

Naomi then asks Belair if she can believe it. Naomi then officially enters the Royal Rumble match and Belair does the same. Belair and Naomi then goes back and forth on who is going to win. Liv Morgan’s music then hits and Liv makes her way out with Raquel Rodriguez. While standing in the entranceway, Liv talks about how Ripley lost her man to a real woman. Liv then calls Tiffany a Liv Morgan wannabe. Liv then says she doesn’t care about anybody because the headline news will be all about her because she is also declaring for the Royal Rumble match. Liv then declares her victory for the Rumble match. Liv then says Raquel will ensure that she will win and Ripley headbutts the hell out of Liv. All the women then brawls. Nick Aldis then walks out and tries to separate the women.

A 6-Woman Tag Team Match is then underway.

6-Woman Tag Team Match: WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley and WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Naomi and Bianca Belair vs. Nia Jax, Liv Morgan and Candace LeRae

The match starts off with Rhea Ripley and Nia Jax. Jax immediately tags out to LeRae. Ripley then sends LeRae into the corner, then hits her with a delayed vertical suplex as Belair tags in. Belair then tags out to Naomi and Belair and Ripley send Naomi crashing on top of Jax. Belair and Morgan then tag in and Belair and Naomi hit a standing moonsault-leg drop combination on Morgan.

Belair then delivers some right hands on Morgan in the corner, but Jax tags in and runs over Belair with a clothesline. Jax then sends Belair crashing into the mat and sets up for the An-Nia-Lator, but Belair pushes her off the middle rope. Naomi and LeRae then tag in and Naomi nails LeRae with a Rear View. Jax then tags in and Naomi looks to hit a Sunset Flip on Jax from the apron, but Jax blocks it and hits Naomi with a sit out.

Naomi then nails LeRae with an enzuigiri, then tags in Morgan. Morgan then hits The Three Amigos on Naomi, then follows it up with a dropkick. Jax then tags in and continues wearing down Naomi before LeRae tags in and Naomi nails her. Naomi then nails Morgan and Jax with roundhouse kicks on the apron, then sends LeRae crashing into the mat and tags in Ripley.

Morgan then tags in on her side and Ripley hits a boot on Morgan’s midsection. Morgan then hits Ripley with a backstabber after a distraction to Rodriguez, but Belair tags in and hits a spear on Morgan. Belair then goes for a pin, but Jax breaks the fall. Ripley then sets up for Riptide on Jax, but Morgan jumps on her back. Ripley then hits a Riptide on Morgan on top of Jax, but Belair hits a KOD on LeRae. Morgan then rolls up Belair for the win.

Chelsea Green, Piper Niven, Michin and B-Fab are then shown talking backstage. Michin says she got a rematch with Green for the U.S. title next week. Michin then wises Green good luck and walks off with B-Fab. Niven and Green then say they need better security detail next week.

#DIY then make their way down to the ring for the next match of the night and Apollo Crews follows.

Singles Match: #DIY’s WWE Tag Team Champion Johnny Gargano vs. Apollo Crews

The match starts off with Apollo Crews delivering some right hands on Johnny Gargano. Crews then hits a delayed vertical suplex on Gargano, then follows it up with a dropkick and flies over the top rope. Gargano then moves out of the way, but Crews hits a moonsault on Gargano. Both men then return to the ring and Crews nails Gargano with a clothesline. Crews then hits a Gorilla Press on Gargano and follows it up with a standing moonsault, but Gargano nails Crews with an enzuigiri.

Crews and Gargano then exchange strikes and Ciampa hits a boot on Crews on the outside. Motor City Machine Guns then appear on the entrance ramp, capturing the attention of Gargano and Ciampa. This then opens the door for Crews to roll up Gargano for the win.

Tama Tonga and Jacob Fatu are then shown walking backstage. Fatu cuts a promo to hype up his match with Braun Strowman. Fatu says even though it feels like Godzilla vs. King Kong, it’s not because Fatu is both Godzilla and King Kong all in one. Fatu then hypes up Tama Tonga vs. LA Knight. Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga then make their way down to the ring for the next match of the night.

LA Knight’s music then hits and he makes his way out with a microphone in hand before the next match. Knight says “Let me talk to ya!” Knight then talks about how he got his ass kicked last week, but it was worth it as long as he got a shot at Tonga tonight. Knight then mouths off to Fatu and did his catchphrase with the crowd. The match between Tonga and Knight then begins.

Singles Match: “The Mega Star” LA Knight vs. Tama Tonga

The match starts off with Tama Tonga delivering some right hands on Knight. The action then spills out of the ring and both men continue going back and forth. Tama then hits a clothesline off the barricade on Knight before both men return to the ring and continue going back and forth. They then spill out of the other side of the ring and Tama sends Knight crashing into the ring steps shoulder first.

Tama then sends Knight back inside the ring and delivers some stomps on Knight in the corner, then hits an elbow on the back of Knight’s neck and sends his knee bouncing off the mat. Knight then hits a neckbreaker on Tama, but Tama sends Knight crashing into the mat. Knight then delivers some right hands on Tama and hits a neckbreaker on him, but Knight sends Tama crashing off the apron and flies through the ropes to land on him.

Knight then sends Tama back inside, but Tama hits Knight with a DDT. Knight then responds with an elbow drop off the top and sets up for BFT, but Fatu hops up on the apron. Knight then nails him with a knee and Tama looks to take advantage by rolling up Knight. Knight then kicks out and hits the BFT on Tama for the win.

After the match, Fatu attacks Knight and sends him crashing over the announce desk. Fatu then places Knight on top of it, then delivers some headbutts on him. Braun Strowman’s music then hits and he makes his way down to the ring, then stares down Fatu. Strowman then clotheslines him out of the ring, but Tama holds back Fatu before the two can continue brawling.

The Miz is then shown talking to Austin Theory and Grayson Waller backstage. The Miz pitches “The Marine 7” and they all said they will be rich. Nick Aldis then shows up and tells Waller and Theory they are going to RAW for good. The Miz is upset and confused.

Damian Priest then makes his way down to the ring for the next match of the night.

We then get a video vignette on WWE United States Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura says anyone who comes for the title will have fruitless efforts. Nakamura then says even if you have the determination to seek glory, you will  leave with nothing. Nakamura then says your body will be crushed and shattered, while he remains strong. Nakamura then says he also has more things in his sights. Nakamura then says he is going to be in the Royal Rumble. Nakamura then talks about winning the Royal Rumble before. Nakamura then says 2025 will be his year and that all starts with winning the Royal Rumble.

Carmelo Hayes then makes his way down to the ring for the next match of the night.

Singles Match: Damian Priest vs. Carmelo Hayes

The match starts off with Damian Priest wanting a Test of Strength with Carmelo Hayes, but Hayes hits Priest with strikes instead. Priest then nails Hayes with a flying fist. Priest then works on Hayes in the corner with boots. Priest then hits Hayes with Old School into a crossbody for a two count. Hayes then ducks a strike and sends Priest into the ringpost. Hayes then does a T-Pose in the corner.

Hayes then hits Priest with a flip dive. Hayes then nails Priest with a crossbody for a two count. Priest then hits Hayes with a strike combo to send Hayes into the corner. Priest then hits Hayes with a Broken Arrow. Priest then hits Hayes with an Elevated Flatliner. Hayes then ducks to ringside to avoid a clothesline. Priest then runs and tackles Hayes over the barricade.

Priest then high fives Matthew McConaughey at ringside. Hayes then hits Priest with a single leg Codebreaker for a near fall. Priest then sidesteps a Nothin’ But Net attempt. Hayes then gets a Small Package for a near fall. Priest then turns Hayes inside out with a lariat. Priest then hits Hayes with the South of Heaven for the win.

We then head to the back, where the Motor City Machine Guns and #DIY are arguing around Nick Aldis. Turns out, it will be the MCMG vs. #DIY for the tag team titles at the Royal Rumble in a 2-Out-Of-3 Falls Match.

Next week on SmackDown, #DIY will team with Pretty Deadly to face MCMG and Los Garza. Also, Liv Morgan will go one-on-one with Naomi. Plus, Jimmy Uso vs. Carmelo Hayes and Chelsea Green vs. Michin for the Women’s U.S. Title.

Michelle McCool and WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry are then shown in the crowd.

Damian Priest is then shown walking backstage and he runs into Cody Rhodes. Cody shakes Priest’s hand and walks away. Priest then says see you soon champ.

The Miz is then shown talking to Andrade backstage. Andrade walks away and Jimmy Uso shows up. Jimmy walks past Hayes and Jimmy taunts Hayes on his way to the ring. Hayes then follows Jimmy Uso and attacks him as Jimmy is making his way to the ring. Officials then run out and try to break things up. Jimmy then smiles and Hayes is escorted to the back. Jimmy then makes his way down to the ring for the main event.

Kevin Owens then makes his way down to the ring for the main event.

Singles Match: Jimmy Uso vs. “The Prize Fighter” Kevin Owens

The match starts off with Kevin Owens quickly rolling to ringside to stall, then he yells at Joe Tessitore. Jimmy then catches up with Owens and sends him into the barricade. Owens then responds with clubbing blows. Owens then hits Jimmy with a shoulder tackle and running senton. Owens then continues working on Jimmy Uso. Jimmy then hits Owens with a clothesline. Owens then quickly ducks to ringside for a breather. Jimmy then slams Owens’ face into the announce table a few times. Owens then knocks Jimmy flat off the apron and hits him with a Frog Splash at ringside.

Owens continues working on Jimmy Uso and Jimmy fights his way to his feet with right hands. Owens then hits Uso with a left shoulder-breaker for a two count. Owens then focuses his attack on injuring Jimmy’s left arm. Jimmy then hits Owens with a Gamengiri on the top rope. Owens then drops Jimmy from the top rope by yanking the injured arm. Jimmy then blocks a Swanton Bomb attempt from Owens with double knees. Jimmy then hits Owens with the hip attack. Jimmy then gets a near fall after a few strikes. Jimmy then gets another near fall after a superkick. Owens then hit Jimmy with a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall.

Owens and Jimmy then trade superkicks with Jimmy getting the better of the exchange. Owens then kicks out after a pin attempt. Owens then dodges an Uso Splash and hits Jimmy with a superkick. Jimmy then recovers and hits Owens with a superkick for a near fall. Jimmy then blocks a Stunner and hits Owens with a Spear. Owens then drags Jimmy down by the injured arm to prevent a Uso Splash. Owens then sends Jimmy’s injured shoulder into the ringpost and follows it up with a Pop Up Power Bomb for the win.

After the match, Owens drags Jimmy to the top of the announce desk. Owens then yells at Matthew McConaughey a bit. Cody Rhodes then makes his way down to the ring, drags Owens in the ring and put the boots to him. Cody then continues beating Owens down, then Cody sends Owens crashing into the ring steps. Cody then sends Owens back inside the ring and checks on Jimmy as the show comes to a close.
