It’s official—WWE has crowned The Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels from WrestleMania 25 as the greatest WrestleMania match ever.
On April 16, 2025, WWE dropped its updated list of the top 50 WrestleMania matches of all time, and the 2009 classic between The Deadman and The Showstopper took the top spot. Fans have long viewed the match as the perfect mix of storytelling, emotion, and athleticism, and WWE finally gave it the top spot many say it’s always deserved.
The match, which lasted just over 30 minutes, had everything. Michaels, dressed in all white, descended from above as a symbol of light. The Undertaker, in total darkness, rose from below. The crowd in Houston was locked in from the opening bell, watching both legends kick out of finishers, trade counters, and take risks that nearly ended the match early—like Undertaker’s terrifying dive to the outside that nearly went horribly wrong.
After a brutal back-and-forth, the match ended when Michaels launched off the top rope for a moonsault, only to be caught mid-air and dropped with a final Tombstone Piledriver. The Undertaker improved to 17-0 at WrestleMania, while Michaels walked out having cemented his place in wrestling history all over again.
But while WWE’s number one pick got wide praise, fans had a very different reaction to what WWE ranked tenth: the WrestleMania 35 triple threat between Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair. The first women’s main event in WrestleMania history was a major moment—but many fans feel the match itself doesn’t belong anywhere near a top 10 list.
“The only good thing about this match was it being the first women’s main event lol. Besides that this sht was ASS,”* one fan wrote.
Another said, “This match shouldn’t even be in the top 50, let alone the top 10.”
And one user summed it up bluntly: “Wasn’t even the tenth greatest match of the weekend.”
Even wrestling content creator GoodMicWork chimed in, tweeting: “GoodMicWork names WWE ranking this match the 10th greatest Mania match as the 10th dumbest thing they’ve ever said.”
