WWE just made a major change to tonight’s Monday Night RAW, and Rey Mysterio is now getting a chance to compete in front of his hometown crowd in San Diego.

About two hours before the October 19 episode of RAW, WWE released a backstage segment featuring Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee in the locker room. Chad Gable interrupted the two and had an interesting suggestion about tonight’s Intercontinental Championship match.

Gable pointed out that it would be a shame if Mysterio didn’t get to wrestle in front of his hometown fans, revealing that Rey had been added to his championship match against Dragon Lee.

That means what was originally scheduled as Chad Gable defending the Intercontinental Championship against Dragon Lee has now become a Triple Threat Match featuring Rey Mysterio.

The change is a pretty big deal considering Mysterio wasn’t originally advertised to compete on tonight’s show. Now he’s getting an opportunity to walk out of San Diego with the Intercontinental Championship, and Gable is suddenly dealing with two challengers instead of one.

As Ringside News previously covered, tonight’s RAW already has several major matches scheduled, including Penta vs. Bron Breakker and Joe Hendry vs. JD McDonagh. Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn are also set for a face-to-face confrontation ahead of Crown Jewel.

Monday Night RAW airs live from the Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, beginning at 8 PM ET on Netflix. Ringside News will have live coverage throughout the show.

WWE certainly waited until the last minute to shake up the Intercontinental Championship match. Gable went from defending against one challenger to having two opponents, including a hometown legend who now has a chance to leave San Diego with championship gold.

What do you think about WWE adding Rey Mysterio to Chad Gable’s Intercontinental Championship match against Dragon Lee? Should Mysterio win the title in his hometown, or will Gable find a way to retain? Let us know in the comments below.
