WWE is known for having numerous creative ideas in the works, but not all of them come to fruition. One storyline, in particular, seemed to be getting off the ground before being abruptly dropped, likely due to unfortunate timing that may have come across as tone-deaf.
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Kiana James was removed from the Raw roster because she is currently sidelined with a leg injury that will keep her out for an extended period. WWE had teased an angle involving James and Adam Pearce, seemingly setting up a potential romance between the two.
On Night 1 of the WWE Draft, during the April 26, 2024 SmackDown, Kiana James was drafted to the Raw brand. She made her main roster debut on the June 3 WWE RAW, where she defeated Natalya. James also appeared in a few backstage segments with Adam Pearce, but soon after, she disappeared from television. Now, it’s clear that her injury led to her sudden absence.
"Kiana James (Kayla Klingensmith, 27) was removed from the Raw roster because she’s out of action for a long time due to a leg injury. They had teased something with Adam Pearce and her, seemingly setting up a romance that would hardly have been a smart idea for an authority figure having a relationship with a woman wrestler. The angle was dropped cold, maybe due to the injury."
Given Vince McMahon’s recent high-profile situation with Janel Grant, which is still getting a reaction from the WWE locker room, it was noted that a storyline involving an authority figure like Pearce having a romantic relationship with a female wrestler wouldn’t have been wise. Whether due to her injury or the sensitive nature of the angle, the storyline was dropped entirely.
Kiana James really wants a singles title, and she got a WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Title run alongside Fallon Henley. That didn’t last long, but she’s certainly not finished in WWE yet.
At just 27, Kiana James has shown great potential, receiving praise during her time in NXT as one of the standout performers. However, for now, she’ll have to step away from the ring. Fans will have to wait to see what she can accomplish on the main roster once she returns.
