AEW’s trip to France next month might not just be about making history. If a new backstage report is accurate, WWE could already have plans in place to make sure NXT has some extra star power on the very same night.
According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, the expectation is that NXT will feature at least one major main roster name when it goes head-to-head with AEW Grand Slam: France on Tuesday, October 6.
“It is also presumed NXT will have at least one big main roster name when it goes head-to-head with Tuesday Dynamite.”
The timing is notable because October 6 is when AEW brings Grand Slam to Paris for the first time. The special will air from the Adidas Arena and marks another major international event for Tony Khan’s company, making it one of AEW’s biggest television nights of the year.
AEW has already announced one match for the show, with Chris Jericho set to face Nick Wayne in a rematch after Wayne attacked Jericho following their September 16 Dynamite match. More matches are expected to be announced as the event gets closer.
For now, there’s no word on which WWE star could appear on NXT, and WWE hasn’t officially announced any crossover plans. But if this report proves accurate, the October 6 head-to-head won’t just feature Grand Slam Paris—it could also see NXT get a significant main roster boost at exactly the same time.
