As seen at Sunday’s WWE Battleground event, Kevin Owens pinned AJ Styles to become the New United States Champion.
Dave Meltzer mentioned on today’s installment of Wrestling Observer Radio that the plan right before the show was for AJ Styles to retain the United States Championship Title. Meltzer was unable to confirm if there was a screwy finish planned or if the outcome was changed sometime during the match. All he knows is that the original plan right before the pay-per-view was for Styles to retain.
Meltzer pointed out that Vince McMahon frequently changes match outcomes during the show and noted that he has changed two already in the past month or so.
