Vince Russo’s The Brand Recap – Nakamura Vs. Cena, GFW House Shows, Dixie Carter Stories, More!

Russo was shocked by the dangerous looking spot during the John Cena/Nakamura match last Tuesday night. He says that he’s sure Vince McMahon was absolutely losing his mind in the backstage area when he watched that move because Cena is McMahon’s ‘money maker’, and McMahon certainly doesn’t give a crap about Nakamura, Finn Balor or any of these other guys that don’t draw.

Gilbertti says that he can’t really blame that error on either man, but it’s a dangerous move that was executed poorly. The incredible thing about all of this is that in Japan there are 20-30 spots like that on every show, and that’s what constitutes a great match to the marks.

Lane mentions that Karen Jarrett went on record this week, saying her altercation with Braun Strowman at a bar was blown way out of proportion, and it was simply two wrestling characters arguing. Gilbertti says that’s a lie because this was a legit altercation that ultimately passed over, and they both ended up having drinks together. Russo says that Karen Jarrett must think we’re all really stupid to think that they were both playing their characters in a bar while they both weren’t working.

Russo asks Gilbertti if he thinks it’s a smart idea for GFW to be running house shows when their television audience is less than 300,000 at this point. Gilbertti points out that NJPW has a similar viewing audience on AxsTV but they were still able to sell out a 3500 seat arena in Long Beach recently. If GFW thinks house shows can build their brand without breaking the bank, then it’s a worthwhile venture.
