Elias was a clear example of WWE having trouble finding the right direction for certain talent. He was released from the company in 2023, and now Vince Russo has claimed that Elias sent him money to help create a new gimmick for his WWE return.
While speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestlebinge, Vince Russo claimed that Elias sent him money to make a new gimmick for his WWE return. Vince Russo said this happened when Elias was getting ready to return to WWE while Vince McMahon was still in charge of creative. Before meeting McMahon, Elias asked Russo for help in creating a new character.
Russo stated that Elias was so unhappy with WWE’s plans that he even sent the former WWE writer money, though Russo said he never asks wrestlers for payment. Russo added that Elias knew the creative direction was bad and felt it would hurt his career. Russo gave him a strong new gimmick, but when Elias shared it with Vince McMahon, McMahon didn’t understand it.
“Elias went as far as to send me money. Bro, if a talent wants to call me, bounce stuff off me, I am always gonna give them that. I don’t want a dime from you. He actually sent me money because what happened was, Elias went away and Vince was gonna bring him back and the creative was freaking horrible. And he knew it was horrible, he was like, ‘Vince, I will be dead in the water.’ So we got on the phone together, and I gave him a really, really good gimmick, and he went and pitched it to Vince, and it was just so far over Vince’s head that he couldn’t comprehend it.”
WWE is all in the past for Elias as he recently signed a deal with AEW and will likely be working alongside The Righteous in Ring of Honor. It’s clearly an interesting direction for the former WWE Superstar and we’ll have to see how he will fare in Tony Khan’s company. After all, it’s likely Vince Russo will also support Elias no matter what.
