Vince McMahon has always been one of the most controversial figures in professional wrestling, known for his strict control over WWE. Last-minute changes were a regular part of his management style, and he even changed the outcome of matches long after they had already started.

While speaking on the latest episode of The Wrestling Time Machine with Mac Davis, Teddy Long talked about how last-minute changes to matches were common in the past, under Vince McMahon’s regime.

When asked about McMahon making sudden changes, Long confirmed that the former WWE Chairman had done it many times. He recalled instances where two wrestlers had already planned their finish and were deep into their match, only for McMahon to get on the headset and tell the referee to change the winner on the spot just because he didn’t want one wrestler to go over.

“Vince has done that several times. I’ve seen him, where two guys are in the ring, they already got their finish, they know who’s going to go over, and they are ten minutes into the match. Vince gets on the headset and tells the referee, ‘I don’t want that guy to go over. Tell the other guy I want him to win.’ Just like that.”

Vince McMahon was well known to be particular about the verbiage used on WWE television, so it comes as no surprise McMahon did whatever he wanted during his time in the company.

With Triple H now in charge of WWE’s creative direction, the way matches and storylines are handled has changed. While last-minute changes still occur, many feel that WWE’s booking is now more organized compared to McMahon’s era, which was known for frequent rewrites and unpredictable finishes.

Do you believe Vince Mc Mahon’s last-minute match changes helped or hurt WWE’s product? Should wrestlers have more control over their matches? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
