Velveteen Dream isn’t accepting his loss to Ryan Pownall. After being disqualified for throwing his opponent out of the ring twice, the former WWE star stood at ringside and repeatedly declared that he “never lost.”
Patrick Clark Jr. returned to Instagram Live during the final fight of Duel Arena 1 at Orlando’s Kia Center on August 29. He recorded from ringside as Mason Ajester, dressed as SpongeBob, beat down Daniel Cao. While that fight was getting underway, Clark repeatedly rejected the result of his own bout against Pownall.
“I never lost. Never lost!”
Clark may not accept the decision, but the referee made it clear inside the ring. The former NXT North American Champion was disqualified after repeatedly turning his boxing match into a wrestling fight.
The trouble started immediately. Clark and Pownall came out throwing wild punches before becoming tangled in the ropes several times. Clark grabbed Pownall in a headlock, threw him into the ropes and helped send both men crashing out of the ring during the first round. Things got even messier in the second. Clark launched Pownall into the ropes and sent him to the floor, causing the referee to deduct a point and issue a warning.
Clark didn’t back down. He later shoved Pownall through the ropes and out of the ring again, forcing the referee to wave off the fight and award Pownall the victory by disqualification.
The wild finish followed an explosive pre-fight press conference where Clark was dragged away by security and returned carrying what appeared to be a metal pole. He also claimed Pownall was facing a defamation lawsuit, though he provided no court filing or other documentation.
Clark may have a loss sitting on his boxing record, but Velveteen Dream clearly isn’t claiming it. As far as he’s concerned, getting disqualified doesn’t mean Pownall actually beat him.
