Val Venis has heard plenty about his return to the ring. Now he’s got something to say about how he actually performed.

The 55-year-old former WWE star uploaded footage of himself taking a spear from Rico Gold on Instagram and made one hell of a claim: even after spending at least three or four years away from the ring, Venis believes he took the move better than 90% of the wrestlers currently working in WWE and AEW.

“Just remember pro wrestling fans, at the AWESOME age of 55, I factually took a spear better than 90% of both the WWE and AEW rosters. And that was without any ring time for atleast 3 or 4 years. PASSING A TORCH TO A YOUNG MAN NAMED RICO GOLD WAS AN HONOR!”

Venis’ return has already created far more conversation than he probably expected. He recently stepped back into the ring for the first time in four years, losing to Gold in a match that immediately had wrestling fans talking about everything from his age to his appearance.

Perry Saturn wasn’t particularly impressed. Saturn recently admitted that watching Venis wrestle again bothered him because so much of the original Val Venis presentation was built around his physique. Saturn worried that seeing him at 55 could replace the image fans remembered from his WWE prime, even wondering whether Venis had accepted the booking because he desperately needed money.

Meanwhile Venis doesn’t look interested in treating the match like something he should be embarrassed about.Quite the opposite. He proudly posted one of the biggest bumps he took, reminded everyone he’d barely been inside a wrestling ring in years and put his bump-taking ability above most of two of the biggest rosters in professional wrestling.

Not bad for a guy who apparently wasn’t supposed to look back on the match too fondly. And if Venis has his way, fans won’t remember his return because of what he looked like at 55. They’ll remember that spear.
