The Undertaker’s role in AAA is no longer a mystery. Ever since WWE acquired AAA, the Hall of Famer has been heavily involved behind the scenes, helping shape the promotion’s creative direction. Until now, though, he had never actually confirmed where he fit into the company.

During an interview with Chris Van Vliet at Fanatics Fest, Undertaker was asked point-blank what his role with AAA actually is. He tried to sidestep the question while discussing the Original El Grande Americano vs. El Grande Americano rivalry, revealing that he and Jeremy Borash came up with the initial concept before Chad Gable and El Grande Americano elevated it.

“Myself and Jeremy Borash kind of had this idea, but El Grande and Chad Gable, man, they took the thought and the idea, and they really took it to a whole different level. There were some highly motivating speeches that I gave both of them before they would go out.”

Undertaker also explained the philosophy he’s been trying to instill in AAA, saying he wants the promotion to stand apart from everything else WWE produces.

“I would reiterate to them how important what they’re about to go out and do is not only for AAA but for their own personal careers… trying to motivate them to do things differently and be more edgy, more aggressive, more violent… My vision is, I want us to put out a product that is completely different from NXT, it’s completely different from SmackDown or Raw. I want it to be different from every other wrestling.”

But Van Vliet wasn’t about to let him dodge the original question. After laughing that he thought he’d managed to avoid answering it, Undertaker finally gave the clearest description yet of what he actually does behind the scenes.

“I thought I dodged that question. I went all the way around it… That’s why you’re the best, because I thought I went all the way around it, and you would forget that… I guess in layman’s terms, I’m the head of creative.”

It’s the first time Undertaker has publicly identified himself as AAA’s head of creative, putting an official title on the behind-the-scenes role he’s held since WWE took over the promotion.

What do you think? Are you excited to see what AAA looks like with The Undertaker leading creative, or would you rather see the promotion take a different direction? Let us know in the comments below.
