Triple H is remembering Rick Achberger with a photo that says plenty about the fan WWE knew as “Sign Guy.” Following news of Achberger’s death, he shared a tribute featuring one of Rick’s memorable digs at him—a toilet seat bearing the words “HHH IS CRAP.”
Taking to Instagram later on September 27, Triple H acknowledged the loss and remembered how Achberger spent decades making his opinions impossible to miss. Alongside the photo, he shared condolences on behalf of the WWE family.
“Saddened to hear of the death of Rick Achberger, known to the WWE Universe as ‘Sign Guy.’ For decades, Rick was a fixture at events holding a sign that expressed exactly how he felt about you that given evening. He will be missed by the entire @WWE family. We send condolences to his family and friends.”
The photo made the tribute especially personal. Achberger could be seen in his familiar blue work shirt, holding the toilet seat with a picture of Triple H inside it—a reminder of the humor that made him part of the ringside experience. Triple H’s message followed Lance Petersen’s announcement of Achberger’s passing earlier Sunday. Petersen remembered Rick’s love of talking with other fans and explained that his health had deteriorated quickly over the previous month.
“It’s with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of WWE Sign Guy Rick Achberger, today Sunday 9/27/26. He was an absolute great guy and loved talking with fans at the shows. He tackled some health problems a couple of years ago, but last month began to go downhill rapidly. Rest in peace.”
Achberger’s red hat, blue shirt and signs made him recognizable to fans who had never even met him. His dedication took him to more than 1,000 WWE shows, and his connection with the company extended to a 2007 appearance on Deal or No Deal, where John Cena, Bobby Lashley, Edge and Randy Orton joined the occasion.
Triple H also joined other wrestling personalities paying tribute to Achberger, including Big E, Alexa Bliss and Mike Rome. Their messages remembered the man behind the signs and the interactions that made seeing him at shows special.
For years, Achberger used his signs to get a reaction from the people inside the ring. Triple H’s farewell showed how much those moments meant on the other side of the barricade, too. Our condolences go out to Rick’s family, friends and everyone who knew him.
