NXT brought the Great American Bash to fans as their deal with Hulu and premium live events started with a bang.
The premium live event went down at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, where Tony D’Angelo defended the NXT Championship against the mysterious Naraku in the opening match
The man formerly known as EVIL in NJPW wanted the gold. After weeks of cryptic warnings and psychological games, the two finally met with the title on the line.
Tony D’Angelo still had a bandaged face thanks to Naraku’s fireball attack on NXT this week. The referee almost stopped the match at one point as Naraku laid in his attack, but Tony D didn’t give up.
Naraku and Tony D destroyed the set all around the Performance Center. There were more than a few close near falls along the way. Tony D has been a fighting champion since Stand & Deliver, but Naraku took the former Don of NXT to his limit.
Tony D’Angelo proved why he’s the only Grand Slam winner in NXT history as he fought on. He also had that bandage around his eyes for most of the match. Suddenly, Tony D’Angelo took down Naraku with a Dead To Rights to score the pinfall and retain his title.
