Tony D’Angelo may still be in NXT, but he’s already thinking about what comes next. While recent reports suggested there are no immediate plans to move him to RAW or SmackDown, the former NXT Champion made it clear he knows exactly what he wants to accomplish when that opportunity eventually comes.
Speaking with the Toronto Sun on October 1, D’Angelo was asked about the possibility of getting called up to WWE’s main roster. While he admitted the timing isn’t in his hands, he made it clear that’s the next step he’s working toward.
“Obviously, the next step is to get to the main roster. At what capacity, I’m not sure. That’s kind of not up to me, but obviously I wanna be WWE Champion.”
D’Angelo also revealed a long-term goal that goes beyond simply making it to RAW or SmackDown. He wants to accomplish something no one else has managed to do.
“I think pulling off the Grand Slam on the main roster and NXT, that’s never been done. So I think that would be a pretty cool goal.”
Those comments come just weeks after D’Angelo lost the NXT Championship to Grayson Waller at Heatwave, ending his run at the top of the brand. Despite the title loss, a previous report from WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select stated there were no active discussions about moving him to the main roster, with the expectation being that he’d remain in NXT for the time being.
Whether that changes in the coming months remains to be seen, but D’Angelo clearly isn’t hiding his ambitions. Whenever the call finally comes, he’s already set his sights on much more than just making the jump.
