Thunder Rosa has heard just about every criticism imaginable over the years. Some fans don’t like her promos. Others don’t like how outspoken she can be outside the ring. Then there are the people who insist the version of Thunder Rosa they see in interviews and on social media isn’t the “real” her.
Speaking on the Battleground Podcast, Rosa was asked what fans think they understand about her that they actually get wrong. She admitted she doesn’t spend much time worrying about that anymore because so much of her life is already out in the open for anyone who wants to see it.
“One of the things that they get wrong? I don’t know. Honestly, like, I don’t even focus on that anymore. Like, if they understand me, fine. If they don’t, like, go on YouTube and watch my life. Like, literally I’m doing everything on YouTube and my social media.”
She then remembered the backlash she used to get when she regularly voiced her opinions on a wrestling podcast. Rosa said some fans couldn’t handle the fact that she wasn’t afraid to say exactly what she thought.
“Oh, yeah, maybe, they get mad because I have an opinion. When I used to work on the podcast before, I was very opinionated and I would say certain things and people were pissed about it, and they were just like, ‘Oh, she sounds stupid. She don’t know what she’s talking about.'”
That never convinced her to stay quiet. Rosa said people have every right to disagree with her, but she isn’t going to stop using her voice simply because someone doesn’t like what she has to say.
“Well, sir, ma’am, I do have an opinion and I am going to use my voice when I need to and I’m going to raise my voice when I need to. So, you are in your whole entire right to disagree, but that doesn’t mean that, like, because I have an opinion, I am just a jerk.”
Then Rosa addressed the criticism that seems to bother her the most. She knows there are fans who think the person they see publicly isn’t genuine, but she couldn’t disagree more.
“I think I show my… who I am… I think that I’m a real person. Maybe they’re like, ‘Oh, she’s fake.’ I’m not fake. I’m a real freaking person that really cares for other people.”
For Rosa, that’s the biggest misconception of them all. Fans don’t have to agree with everything she says, and they don’t even have to like her. But if there’s one thing she wants people to understand, it’s that the woman they see on camera isn’t a character she’s putting on—it’s simply who she is.
