The Miz says a lot of wrestling veterans have a problem with WWE: Unreal — but he thinks the show is finally exposing the reality of how difficult WWE actually is behind the scenes.
While speaking on the Almost Athletes with Dude Perfect podcast, Miz addressed the backlash surrounding the behind-the-scenes WWE series and admitted plenty of old-school wrestling personalities are not fans of it at all.
“A lot of old timers hate WWE Unreal.”
But Miz made it clear he feels the exact opposite because he believes the series accurately shows how much pressure and work goes into producing WWE television every week.
“I love it because it shows exactly how hard it is to be in WWE.”
According to Miz, one of the biggest things fans don’t fully understand is how many people behind the scenes are responsible for making WWE function every week.
“Every single person counts, whether you're the microphone person, lighting, cameras, every person that works for WWE matters.”
Miz added that everyone inside WWE is constantly trying to deliver the strongest product possible every single week.
“We’re all trying to put forward the best product we can on television.”
The conversation later shifted into Miz discussing his current role backstage in WWE, where he says he takes leadership very seriously because of how badly he was treated when he first arrived in the company. Miz recalled being completely rejected in the locker room early in his WWE career because many wrestlers only saw him as a reality TV celebrity from MTV’s The Real World.
“I was ostracised, I was thrown out of the locker room, I was not wanted because everyone was like ‘he's from the Real World and wants another 15 minutes of fame.’”
He explained that people didn’t understand how badly he truly wanted to succeed in wrestling.
“They didn't understand how much I loved this business as a child.”
Because of that experience, Miz says he now works hard to make sure younger talent never feels isolated walking into WWE today. He also praised Trick Williams, Je’Von Evans, and Oba Femi as future breakout stars for the company.
“Trick and Je'von and Oba, they are I would say the next big things.”
At this point, Miz clearly believes WWE Unreal is pulling back the curtain on the chaos, pressure, and teamwork that goes into WWE — even if some veterans would rather fans never see that side of the business.
