CM Punk probably wasn’t expecting his SummerSlam trunks to become a collector’s item. But that’s exactly where the conversation ended up after independent wrestler Tara Zep appeared on Off The Rails with Jasmin St. Claire.
What started as a discussion about Punk’s excellent main event against Cody Rhodes somehow spiraled into Zep volunteering to buy the very trunks that have fueled days of internet speculation. Before things got weird, Zep couldn’t stop praising the match itself.
“I watched Punk and Cody. That was incredible. It was very technical and just wrestling… that’s all I watch. When it comes to WWE stuff, I kind of dabble with the storylines, but I mostly just watch the matches that I want to watch.”
That’s when St. Claire interrupted with a question that had nothing to do with wristlocks or storytelling.
“I saw a photo of CM Punk, but it looked like he s*** his pants. Do you know the photo I’m talking about?”
Zep looked completely confused: “No.” St. Claire wasn’t about to let it go: “Oh no. It’s out there on the internet. Someone sent it to me.” Now Zep needed to know what everyone else had apparently already seen: “I’m actually gonna look it up.” St. Claire encouraged her to do exactly that.
“Go ahead and look it up. Someone just said Punk made a poop stain during his match.”
The interview eventually moved on to completely different subjects, making it seem like the conversation was over. It wasn’t. As the interview wrapped up, St. Claire reminded Zep that she’d send her the now-viral image after the show.
“Make sure you find that CM Punk… I’ll try to send it to you if I can download it. I’ll send it to you. The CM Punk s*** photo.”
Even after hearing all of that, Zep made one thing clear. She still loves CM Punk: “Oh, I love him though. Okay.” Sensing an opening for one last joke, St. Claire started laughing again: “Come on. Then you could look at…” Before she could even finish the sentence, Zep blurted out the line that instantly became the best thing about the interview.
“No. Okay. I’m sorry. I’m gonna buy… I’m gonna buy his trunks.”
The laughter didn’t stop there. After Zep had already left the show, St. Claire was still talking about it with viewers.
“She just did say that… she wants his dirty trunks. Tara said that she wants to buy CM Punk’s pooped trunks. Yes, Stephen, that would be the best headline of the evening. Tara Zep just said on the show that she wants to buy CM Punk’s pooped trunks.”
The exchange is the latest twist in one of SummerSlam’s strangest post-show stories. Ever since Punk defeated Cody Rhodes to retain the Undisputed WWE Championship, social media has been flooded with screenshots and zoomed-in photos of a dark mark on the back of his trunks, with fans arguing over what they think they saw. Nothing has confirmed Punk actually had an accident, but that hasn’t stopped the internet from turning the moment into a running joke.
Now that joke has apparently reached the point where somebody wants to own the trunks. Whether Tara Zep was serious or just leaning into the absurdity, she may have become the first wrestler to publicly throw her name into the hat if CM Punk ever decides to auction off one of the most talked-about pieces of ring gear from SummerSlam.
