Ronda Rousey didn’t just show up at WrestleMania — she helped make her first match happen.

While speaking on What’s Your Story, Stephanie McMahon revealed that Rousey was actually the driving force behind their WrestleMania 34 showdown. That match saw Rousey team with Kurt Angle to face Stephanie McMahon and Triple H in what became Rousey’s in-ring debut. According to Stephanie, Rousey personally pushed for the match because she wanted to follow up on their earlier confrontation at WrestleMania 31 alongside The Rock.

“I’m a big fan of hers. She was the one who requested the match. It was a couple of years later. Originally, she was going to come in sooner but there was a movie or something. You signed her, and Ronda was the one who said, ‘We need to finish the story with Steph.’ She is the reason I ever had a WrestleMania match. It was her first match and we had to really train and put it together. It was stiff. Safe, but stiff.”

Stephanie’s comments make it clear that the match wasn’t just WWE creative planning — it came directly from Rousey wanting to complete the storyline they started years earlier.

That WrestleMania 34 match ended up being a major turning point, not just for Rousey but for Stephanie as well. Stephanie admitted that without Rousey pushing for the idea, she might never have stepped into the ring for a WrestleMania match herself.

After her debut, Rousey quickly became a full-time WWE performer and went on to win the RAW Women’s Championship later that same year, cementing herself as one of the company’s biggest stars at the time.

Looking back now, it’s clear that one request from Rousey helped shape a major WrestleMania moment that fans still remember years later.

Do you think Ronda Rousey’s WrestleMania 34 debut still ranks as one of the best celebrity-style debuts in WWE history, or have other stars topped it since then? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
