WWE could be adding another a match to the August 7 episode of SmackDown, and this one isn’t part of the advertised card.
TRNBCKL Gold reports that Baron Corbin vs. Trick Williams for the WWE United States Championship is part of the early lineup for tonight’s show. As always with early WWE rundowns, things can change before SmackDown hits the air.
The match would be a SummerSlam rematch after Corbin shocked Williams and took the U.S. Title in his first televised WWE match back. Corbin used the championship behind the referee’s back before hitting End of Days to finish Trick off.
That loss ended Williams’ 105-day reign, which began at WrestleMania. He had only recently introduced his custom white-fur version of the U.S. Title before losing the championship at SummerSlam. If the match stays on the show, Trick won’t have to wait long for revenge. Corbin would be defending the title almost immediately after stealing it from him, giving WWE a quick chance to either cement Corbin’s new run or put the belt right back on Williams.
The currently advertised SmackDown lineup already includes Kevin Owens and CM Punk appearing, Chelsea Green appearing, Charlotte Flair vs. Jade Cargill, and Cody Rhodes responding to Randy Orton’s return. Again, Corbin vs. Trick is part of the early lineup and has not been officially advertised, so the match could still be changed or pulled before showtime.
What do you think about WWE potentially running Baron Corbin vs. Trick Williams again this quickly? Should Corbin keep the title, or should Trick take it right back? Leave your feedback in the comments.
