The Motor City Machine Guns are back. After disappearing from AEW television for weeks and leaving fans wondering what happened, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin finally resurfaced—but not where most people expected.
Shelley and Sabin made a surprise appearance during the September 29 ROH TV tapings at WJCT Studios, walking out to a loud reaction before hitting their signature Motor City Machine Guns pose. It wasn’t a match, but it was the first time fans had seen the team since they quietly disappeared from AEW television.
The timing is interesting too. After debuting in AEW, the Motor City Machine Guns vanished for nearly a month before returning at All In and wrestling on Collision. Then they disappeared all over again, leaving fans scratching their heads over why one of the biggest tag team signings of the year kept bouncing on and off television.
Sean Ross Sapp later revealed that Shelley and Sabin wanted to finish the independent dates they had already committed to before signing with AEW, although many fans still questioned why the company couldn’t find ways to keep them on TV in the meantime. Now it looks like their next chapter could be playing out in Ring of Honor instead.
It’s too early to say exactly what Tony Khan has planned, but their appearance at the ROH tapings certainly points toward the Motor City Machine Guns becoming part of the ROH roster for the time being. Whether that’s just a short stop before heading back to AEW or the beginning of a longer run is something fans will have to keep an eye on.
