Sol Ruca’s name wasn’t just randomly thrown together. It was built to match who she is, what she brings to WWE, and the beach-inspired personality fans now see every week.
During her appearance on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, Ruca was asked how she came up with her WWE ring name. She explained that NXT had her send in a list of possible first and last names before narrowing things down.
“So in NXT they have us send in like five first names, five last names. And then they kind of will give you a few options based on that.”
Ruca said she wanted a name that fit her personality and her presentation. For her, the character is not some fake act. It is basically who she already is, just turned up for WWE.
“When I was putting in the names, I kind of just wanted something that fit my gimmick in a sense. I feel like my gimmick is myself.”
She said the name needed to feel beachy, edgy, and different, which lines up perfectly with her surfing influence and laidback style.
“So something that, you know, is beachy, a little bit edgy, a little bit different.”
Ruca then broke down both parts of the name. “Sol” means sun, while “Ruca” had a personal connection through surfing and slang. She then summed up the name’s meaning in simple terms.
“Sol obviously means sun. And then Ruca, it is the name of my favorite surf brand, but it also means like in slang it’s like chick or you’re like your girl.”
“So it’s like some lady, some girl, you know, something like that, but a little different.”
The name clearly worked out. Sol Ruca now feels like one of the most distinct identities in WWE’s women’s division, and it matches everything fans see from her in the ring: athletic, chill, risky, and completely different from everyone else. That is how you know a ring name fits. It does not sound like a costume. It sounds like the person.
