Shelly Martinez is looking back on her time in OVW, and she isn’t holding back when it comes to Maria Kanellis. Speaking on her YouTube channel, Martinez accused Kanellis of repeatedly going after one of her boyfriends, claiming it happened while Kanellis was in the early stages of her relationship with CM Punk.
The topic came up after Martinez watched an old clip of Kanellis criticizing Kelly Kelly’s behavior around men. Martinez immediately said the comments reminded her of her own experiences with Kanellis, arguing that the same behavior Kanellis criticized was something she allegedly did herself.
“Remember that boyfriend—you know, you’re friends with him—that I had back in OVW? Okay. In regards to him—I talked to him today, actually—in regards to him, when I was with him, this is my reply to Maria’s video. Yeah, she was over there and, like, you know, everyone else was fine with my boyfriend but her. And now it’s very clear that she’s okay with messing around or stealing other people. Everything she said about Barbie, she did to me.”
Martinez said it wasn’t an isolated incident either. She claimed there was another situation involving a different man she was seeing and alleged Kanellis once again inserted herself into the situation.
“She did it. But this was back in OVW, right? Then there was a separate situation that happened that wasn’t exactly the same, but had to do with a guy that I was seeing, and she was an equation in the equation and was being shady. So for her to do me twice like that in two different eras…”
Martinez then described how she says Kanellis acted around her boyfriend, claiming she would deliberately flirt with him before checking to see whether Martinez was watching.
“I remember when she would throw herself at that boyfriend. She would be on him and then look out the corner of her eye to see if I was watching.”
Rather than confronting her, Martinez said she intentionally gave Kanellis no reaction because she believed that was exactly what she wanted: “And I would no-sell it. I was like, ‘I’m not giving that anything.'” She admitted, however, that she would question her boyfriend afterwards whenever the interactions happened.
“But he would hear about it. He would hear about it. I’m like, ‘What? What?’ And I’m like, ‘No. Why are you talking to her? Why are you putting her over?'”
Martinez said what confused her most was the timing. According to her, Kanellis was already beginning her relationship with CM Punk, which made the alleged flirting even harder to understand. In fact, Martinez joked that she would’ve happily switched places.
“And then at one point I realized, I was like, ‘Dude, if she wants to swap, I’d rather be with Punk. Like, I want Punk. So if she wants my boyfriend, why don’t you take him so I can have Punk?'”
The former WWE Superstar said the situation never made sense from her perspective because Kanellis already had the person Martinez wanted to be with.
“And it didn’t make sense to me that she was doing that when it was the beginning phases of her and Punk because you have Punk, and I want him, right?”
It may have happened years ago, but Martinez clearly hasn’t forgotten it. Her latest comments offer a very different perspective on life behind the scenes in OVW and add another surprising story involving several future wrestling stars.
