Oba Femi has been steamrolling just about everyone in his path, but according to a new backstage claim, not everyone is excited when they find out they’re working with him. The reason has nothing to do with Oba himself—it’s about what usually happens after the feud is over.
Speaking during a Self Made Session, Self Made Pro was asked how established WWE stars feel about putting over younger names like Oba Femi and Bron Breakker. He said it really depends on the wrestler, but claimed Oba is one of the names some talent have been hesitant to work with.
“It really depends on who you ask because it depends. It depends on where your spot is on the card. I know that there were a lot of wrestlers that were hesitant to work Oba Femi, not out of anything personally against Oba, but because they knew, ‘Oh, if I’m being paired against Oba Femi, I’m going to be, like, f****** and sent down the card a little bit.'”
According to Self Made Pro, the issue isn’t backstage heat or problems with Femi personally. Instead, he claimed some wrestlers see a program with someone WWE is heavily protecting as a tough spot to be in, because they don’t feel like they have much to gain if they’re there mainly to help build the next big star. He also said Oba isn’t the only one who gets that kind of reaction. According to Self Made Pro, Gunther is another wrestler some talent aren’t eager to work with for similar reasons.
“I know that there’s some wrestlers that aren’t keen to work Oba or Gunther, mainly because it’s like they don’t like working on the projects because, again, they just don’t—they feel like they don’t get a lot out of working a project.”
Every generation has that one wrestler WWE decides to build around, and according to this report, Oba Femi may already be in that category. Whether everyone likes it or not, his rise doesn’t look like it’s slowing down anytime soon.
Do you think wrestlers should be hesitant about working with someone like Oba Femi, or is that simply part of the business when WWE picks its next top star? Let us know in the comments below.
