Scorpio Sky used to be one of AEW’s most featured talent during the early days of the company, but he’s been absent from television for a long time now, and Sky has now addressed his absence from AEW programming.

While speaking on the Creating Character podcast, Scorpio Sky talked about why he hasn’t been on AEW lately and what fans might think. He knows it probably looks like he’s been injured, but that’s not true.

Sky stated that he has been healthy for a long time and wants to wrestle. But it’s not up to him as he added that wrestlers don’t get to decide everything. He said all he can do is wait and hope for a chance to come back.

“Well, I mean, anyone that has followed me obviously knows that things have been a little different over the last couple of years. I know I’m healthy and I’ve been healthy for a long time, and I’ve been wanting to compete. But it’s just one of those things where—what can you do? You only have like so much say. You have this much say, you know? And… yeah, you do what you can.”

Scorpio Sky explained that while some people remind him he’s still getting paid, including his agent, that’s not what matters most to him. He compared it to someone like Tom Hanks at this stage, it’s not just about the money.

Sky said that he didn’t grow up dreaming of being paid to sit on the sidelines. He dreamed of performing and doing what he loves. That’s why being left out is so frustrating for him.

“And the thing about it that’s tough though is, there’s that side of like, well, you’re getting paid, you know? And people will say that, like, ‘Oh, you’re getting paid.’ My agent will tell me that—’Oh, you’re getting paid good money.’

Like, but I think about it like this—like, does Tom Hanks make movies to get paid at this point in his life? What I’m trying to say is, you don’t grow up dreaming of getting paid to not do this. Yeah, you grow up dreaming of doing it. And that’s where I think the frustration comes in.”

Back in July 2023, Scorpio Sky was out of action after a “freak injury” but he would make his return in September of that year. However, Sky hasn’t been featured on AEW or ROH programming since the October 7, 2023 edition of ROH television and so it remains to be seen whether Sky will ever make his return to AEW programming as fans feel it is unlikely now.
