Savio Vega is officially back in the WWE mix, but don’t expect to see him throwing punches in the ring this weekend—at least not yet.

In an update to the earlier reports of his involvement in the WWE x AAA: Worlds Collide event, Dave Meltzer confirmed on Wrestling Observer Radio that the Puerto Rican legend is being brought in to work behind the scenes.

The June 7 international crossover event is already stacked with marquee matchups, but Vega’s presence now has a clear purpose.

“There’s a lot of talk about Savio Vega,” Meltzer said. “You know who is going to be there? I do not know if he will appear before people, but it’s not like he’s there to interfere or do anything… well, maybe he will, but Savio Vega is a producer for the show.”

Meltzer made it clear that Vega’s return is not meant to be a nostalgia pop—at least not for now.

“So it’s not necessarily that he’s a performer for the show, but he is going to be there. I mean, that part is accurate.”

Vega’s appearance at WWE Backlash 2023 in Puerto Rico was a major moment, especially as he aided Bad Bunny during the San Juan Street Fight against Damian Priest. But this weekend’s role will mark a different type of return—one that sees Vega helping orchestrate the action from backstage, instead of inside the ropes.

In more behind-the-scenes movement, Hector “Moody” Jack Melendez has joined WWE’s creative team. The longtime Puerto Rican wrestling figure is expected to assist in developing the ongoing WWE-AAA collaborative storyline structure.

WWE x AAA: Worlds Collide is set for Saturday, June 7, at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, California. The event will be broadcast live, with Ringside News providing full play-by-play coverage and any breaking news before the bell rings.

Savio Vega’s new role shows WWE’s serious about blending legacy talent with its cross-promotional strategy. And while fans may want to see him lace up his boots one more time, this gig proves he’s just as valuable behind the curtain.
