Santino Marella just dropped a major announcement for TNA Lockdown, and he added some serious stakes to Sunday’s show in Chicago.
The TNA Director of Authority appeared during AAW Unbreakable and revealed that AAW Heavyweight Champion Joe Alonzo will face a TNA star at Lockdown in a match where both a championship and a TNA contract are on the line. Santino opened the video by addressing Alonzo directly and making it clear he had heard enough of the complaining.
“Hello, Mr. Alonzo. It is I, Santino Marella, the TNA Director of Authority. I hear you whining, I hear you complaining. And let me tell you this. At Lockdown, in a pre-match, you’re gonna have a match with a TNA Superstar.”
Then Santino dropped the real bombshell. If Alonzo loses, his opponent becomes the new AAW Heavyweight Champion. If Alonzo wins, he gets a TNA contract.
“If you lose, the TNA Superstar will get the AAW Championship. But if you win, you’ll be given a TNA contract.”
“Now, I know you are from Chicago, but guess what? The TNA Superstar is also from Chicago because he is The Hometown Man.”
The match now gives TNA Lockdown another major wrinkle before the show even begins. Alonzo has a chance to earn himself a TNA contract in front of his hometown crowd, but one loss means he also walks away without the AAW Heavyweight Championship.
