Samoa Joe just punched his ticket to one of the biggest matches at AEW WrestleDream, and he did it by putting Jack Perry away on Dynamite.

During AEW Dynamite Grand Slam France, Joe defeated Perry to qualify for the first-ever Clockwork Carnage match. The finish came after Joe planted Perry with the Muscle Buster to score the win.

That makes Joe the first wrestler officially locked into the match, which will have the AEW World Championship on the line. Clockwork Carnage is a brand-new match type for AEW. Eight competitors will enter at three-minute intervals, with eliminations allowed while the field is still filling up.

Once all eight wrestlers have entered, a 15-minute time limit begins. From there, the wrestler who scores the most falls during those 15 minutes will leave WrestleDream as AEW World Champion. Joe is now the first name on the board, and with seven more spots still open, AEW has plenty of room to load this thing up before WrestleDream.

Samoa Joe has already held world championship gold before, and now he has a direct path back to the top if he can survive AEW’s newest match concept.
