Rob Van Dam has done just about everything there is to do inside a wrestling ring, but could his future eventually involve helping other wrestlers put their matches together? The idea of RVD taking on a very different role in WWE was recently thrown his way.
While speaking on the 1 Of A Kind With RVD podcast, Van Dam was asked whether he could ever see himself becoming an agent in WWE. The suggestion came with plenty of praise, with the host calling RVD a “wrestling genius” who could seemingly bring plenty of experience to the role. RVD didn’t sound particularly eager to make that his next job. Still, he explained that he tries not to completely dismiss opportunities before thinking them through.
“I mean, I don’t see it, but never say never. I like to—I like to think that I always consider everything. So that’s really the honest answer, right?”
After making sure the question was specifically about becoming an agent, RVD went a little deeper into how he approaches decisions. He likes to reconsider things rather than immediately deciding something could never happen.
“I mean, I know what you mean. But I do, though. I mean, I try to think that I consider and second-guess everything to make sure that I’m making the right decision. You know what I mean?”
That mindset apparently comes from times when RVD has realized he didn’t give something enough consideration. When that happens, he tries to make sure he doesn’t repeat the same mistake the next time another decision comes along.
“And when I don’t, and I find out that I don’t, then I try to punish myself and implement it more in the future. You know what I mean?”
So nobody should expect RVD to suddenly show up backstage producing WWE matches based on these comments. He doesn’t currently see himself becoming an agent, but with RVD refusing to completely rule it out, that door is at least cracked open.
RVD has spent decades looking at wrestling differently from just about everyone else. Whether that perspective would ever translate into him helping put together somebody else’s matches is another question entirely.
