Rusev still sees the WWE United States Championship as one of the most important parts of his career, and he believes the title was practically made for him.

While appearing on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former champion reflected on his early run in WWE after debuting on the main roster in 2014. It didn’t take long for him to establish himself as a powerhouse, eventually capturing the WWE United States Championship and turning it into one of the defining elements of his WWE persona. Looking back on those years, Rusev explained that the championship felt like it belonged to him more than any other title in the company.

“It was my title. I felt it really like my title. I felt like, you know, not everybody can be world champion, but when I have this, I can make it as big as I can.”

Rusev said his approach has always been the same regardless of the role he’s given in WWE. Whether he’s fighting for a championship or involved in a storyline without a title, he believes the key is making every opportunity feel important.

“That always has been my goal — to whatever I do, to make it as big as I can. It doesn’t matter if it’s the US title, if it’s no title, if I’m fighting for my wife’s honor, whatever there is, you got to make the best out of it.”

The Bulgarian star also shared a story about one of his title wins, revealing that it came shortly after an encounter with former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Rusev recalled approaching McMahon after putting in work to improve his physique, which led to a surprising moment backstage.

“I was getting trimmed and I went to Vince like all pumped and he’s like, ‘Oh, you look great.’ The next thing you know, I was United States champion.”

According to Rusev, moments like that were typical of how McMahon rewarded performers who showed dedication and effort.

“When he sees you put in the work, he will reward you.”

Another one of Rusev’s United States Championship victories also happened on a meaningful date for him, making the moment even more memorable.

“Then whatever happened, I don’t know who I lost it to, but then on my birthday again, like I get to win it. So I really have a special relationship with this title.”

Although Rusev hasn’t reclaimed the United States Championship since returning to WWE, he made it clear that he still believes another title run is coming. He pointed to his ability to compete at the highest level and said he is ready to chase any championship opportunity that comes his way.

“I will be US champ. I’ll be US champ or Intercontinental champ or the big champ. I can do it all.”

Rusev’s confidence shows he still sees himself as a major contender in WWE, and if history is any indication, the United States Championship could once again become a major part of his story.

Do you think Rusev should get another run with the United States Championship in WWE? Or would you rather see him chase the Intercontinental or world title next? Share your thoughts in the comments.
