Rusev is back in WWE and he’s not shy about who he thinks should officially send John Cena into retirement — himself.

During a conversation with Voxcatch, Rusev was asked if he’d like to face Cena one last time before the former world champion hangs it up. Rusev didn’t hesitate, saying he’d not only welcome the opportunity — he’d destroy Cena.

“Oh, that would be absolutely yes, sir… Will I hurt him? Yes, sir. Will I beat him? Yes, sir. So maybe I’m not going to be an appropriate opponent for a farewell John Cena because you’re going to hurt him too much. That’s just what I do.”

When asked who should be Cena’s final opponent if not him, Rusev still circled back to himself — and explained why it would make poetic sense for him to be the one to close Cena’s legendary career.

“Well, I think he’s going to be a great passing of the torch if I just get to beat him. Uh, I mean, yeah, that would be a fantastic farewell for him, you know, because he started my career, now I can end his, which is going to be very appropriate and—and karma always strikes back, you know, at the end of the day.”

It’s a full-circle story Rusev clearly wants to write himself — the young powerhouse who once stood across the ring from John Cena at WrestleMania now looking to shut the final curtain on Cena’s iconic run. Whether WWE pulls the trigger or not remains to be seen, but Rusev made his pitch loud and clear.
