Royce Keys is done talking about AEW — and he’s making it clear that chapter isn’t coming with him into WWE.

After finally explaining what he was doing off TV following his Royal Rumble debut, Keys appeared on The Ringer and addressed a different kind of question — the pressure that comes with jumping from AEW to WWE, and the constant comparisons that follow. The interviewer pointed out how talent making that move often faces heavier scrutiny and asked if any of that noise ever gets into his head.

“Nah, because that’s my past—that’s my past. If I focus on my past, I’m not going to succeed in my future.”

That answer set the tone — and Keys doubled down by revealing a key backstage interaction with Triple H that helped shape his early WWE experience. He explained that instead of waiting around, he actively asked to work non-televised matches just to improve — and got an immediate green light.

“You know, and it was so cool—I sat down with Hunter and asked him, you know, could I do these darks, and he looked at me and said, ‘Yeah, f*** yeah.’”

For Keys, that moment wasn’t just approval — it showed him exactly what kind of environment he stepped into. Even with the limelight that comes from switching companies, Keys made it clear he’s not letting his AEW run define this chapter of his career.

“What? It’s like this dude wants to get it—I want to learn, I want to be here. But all that past—that’s past stuff, man. I’m grateful for it, but it’s not going to define what I’m about to do, you know what I’m saying? So, you know—your past sets you up for your future.”

This comes right after Keys revealed he was grinding behind the scenes the entire time he was off TV — working both Raw and SmackDown before finally showing up on-screen. Now that he’s officially in the mix and already stacking wins, including the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, the message is clear. He’s not here to revisit the past — he’s here to build what’s next.

Do you think Royce Keys is right to ignore AEW comparisons completely, or is that pressure just part of making the jump to WWE? Drop your thoughts below.
