Roman Reigns just brought a little Tribal Chief energy into the Street Fighter universe, and Cody Rhodes definitely didn’t make the guest list. In a new video, Reigns was asked which characters he’d invite to sit at the Head of the Table, and he had an answer ready for just about everybody.
On October 18, the official Street Fighter Twitter account posted the video with the question, “Who are you inviting to the head of the table?” Reigns, who plays Akuma in the upcoming movie, then ran through several of the film’s characters and decided who was worthy of a seat.
Chun-Li was an easy yes, although Reigns admitted there was a pretty practical reason for letting her join. He wasn’t interested in finding out what might happen if he turned her down.
“Yeah, because she’d probably kick us in the mouth if we said no.”
Ken also made the cut without much trouble. Reigns described him as exactly the kind of person you’d actually want hanging around the table.
“Ken? Oh yeah, cool guy, fun guy.”
Ryu wasn’t so lucky. Reigns apparently thinks the guy would spend the entire dinner looking for somebody to fight, which immediately got him kicked off the invitation list.
“Ryu? No, he’d just be fighting. He doesn’t stop. Bad guest.”
Then came Guile, who is played by Cody Rhodes in the movie, and Reigns didn’t even need to explain himself. Considering the history between Reigns and Rhodes in WWE, his answer was about as predictable as it gets.
“Guile? No, you know why.”
Dhalsim, played by Vidyut Jammwal, had no such problem. Reigns immediately gave him a spot and showed some love to his Street Fighter co-star.
“Dhalsim? Oh, for sure. Love Vidyut.”
Zangief also got an invitation, although Reigns made it sound more like self-preservation than friendship. He wasn’t willing to risk getting put through his own table.
“Zangief? I have to, because if not, he’ll probably put me through the table.”
M. Bison was another yes, with Reigns joking that keeping him close might be the smarter option considering what’s coming with the Dark Hado.
“Bison? For sure. He’s gonna be mastering the Dark Hado pretty soon, so we gotta bring him close.”
Of course, there was never going to be much debate when Akuma himself came up. Reigns made it clear that his own character isn’t simply getting invited to the table — he’s taking the best seat.
“Akuma? Oh, he’s the Head of the Table. He’s number one.”
The video comes as Reigns recently revealed that playing the character required extensive martial arts training, but this time he got to have a little more fun mixing his WWE persona with the movie — and sneaking in another shot at Cody along the way.
Reigns may be stepping into Akuma’s world on the big screen, but he’s clearly not leaving the Tribal Chief completely behind. If there’s a Head of the Table anywhere, he apparently plans on claiming it.
