Roman Reigns doesn’t get much time to take his foot off the gas when it comes to staying in WWE shape, and his daily diet shows just how strict things get when he is preparing for a major event.

During Men’s Health’s “Gym & Fridge” series, Reigns opened up his refrigerators and broke down what he actually eats when he is locked into his training routine. Roman explained that most of his prepared meals follow the same basic formula, with a vegetable, a carbohydrate and a protein making up the bulk of what he eats.

That can mean a lot of chicken, ground beef and other simple proteins. Reigns admitted the meals can become pretty boring when he is eating that way for long stretches.

“Well, when I’m locked in for a big event, we’re always going to be in meal prep. So as you can see, we have a vast selection of meal prep. That makes it a lot easier for me. Typically, it’ll be a vegetable, a carb, and a protein. A lot of times, it’s boring and you’re just switching between different types of chicken, you know, some kind of a beef, a ground beef.”

Roman said steak sometimes gets worked into the rotation, but the closer he gets to a deadline, the simpler his food becomes.

“We had steak in before, but it just gets a little easier to eat once we get closer to the deadline.”

The former Undisputed WWE Champion also admitted that sauces are basically his survival mechanism when he is eating bland meal-prep food over and over again.

“That’s how you get by this whole, you know, process of eating the most bland food in the world is you find the most bland condiments in the world with no calories and you just slather it all over that stuff and then you eat it.”

Reigns specifically gave sugar-free ketchup some love before mentioning Melinda’s sauce, joking that the company could send him a check. The bigger problem for Roman is that there really isn’t much of an offseason. When asked how often he meal preps, Reigns explained that WWE’s schedule keeps him in that mode for most of the year.

“I mean, with the WWE schedule being year round, it kind of just never stops, you know? I do have gaps here and there, but for the most part, we’re pretty locked in year round.”

His daily routine gets even more intense when he is fully preparing for a major WWE event. Roman said the day starts with fasted cardio before he moves into breakfast, which is one of his favorite meals.

“Every day kind of starts out with a fasted cardio and then we’ll push in through a breakfast, especially when we’re like really locked into prep. That’s my favorite meal. That’ll be the scrambled eggs. That’ll be the oatmeal and blueberries.”

Reigns said he will sometimes mix collagen or protein powder into the oatmeal before immediately getting back into his prepared meals for the rest of the day.

“Usually we’ll put a little bit of collagen or protein powder in there to flavor it up a little bit. And then we’re just like right to these meals.”

Roman then tried to count exactly how much food he goes through in a full day. Even he had to stop and correct himself once he realized how much he was actually consuming. He quickly realized the math was off.

“Four whole meals including that breakfast. Three being from the meal prep and then two protein shakes. One being after the workout and then one after PM cardio.”

“So five meals with two shakes. Excuse me. Six meals with two shakes. Sorry.”

That means Roman can be putting away six meals and two protein shakes during a serious training period, but none of it sounds like the kind of eating spree most people would enjoy. It is tightly controlled food designed to keep him ready for the ring.

Reigns has spent years maintaining one of the most recognizable physiques in WWE, and this gives a pretty clear look at what goes on away from the cameras to keep it that way. There may be a lot of food involved, but when WWE keeps running all year, Roman’s diet apparently does too.

What do you think about Roman Reigns eating six meals and two protein shakes while preparing for WWE events? Do you think you could handle his year-round diet? Let us know what you think in the comments.
