Roman Reigns has shared a candid update on his battle with leukemia, revealing that while his condition is under control, he’s still not in molecular remission. Because of that, the OTC says he has to be extremely careful about what he puts into his body, including treatments that many athletes swear by.
Speaking to Men’s Health, Reigns was asked about peptides, specifically BPC-157, and whether they’ve been part of his recovery routine. Instead of discussing their effectiveness, Reigns explained why his medical history has kept him away from them.
“Well, with my medical history, I have to be very careful. I’m, you know—yeah, you know, I’m still to this day, down to the wire, fighting CML. So I have to be very, very careful when it comes to different things like that. So I try—anything invasive, any type of, you know, anything like that, I just can’t take a chance on it.”
Although he’s heard plenty of positive things about peptides, Reigns said he isn’t willing to experiment without first discussing it with his doctor. For now, he’d rather stick with what’s already working.
“I’ve heard all kinds of cool stuff about that, but I just—I haven’t been able to break into that or sample. Maybe one day it’ll be a question for my doctor, but it’s just something that—yeah—I’ve been able to just outwork everything at this point. So if I can keep doing that, then I’ll stay that route for now.”
Reigns then offered one of the clearest health updates he’s given since returning to WWE after his leukemia diagnosis resurfaced in 2018. He explained that his chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is under control and below the baseline, but tiny traces of the disease are still present.
“That’s right. Yeah. And it’s—we’re under control and we’re under the actual baseline, but to be in molecular remission, it has to be almost zeroed out, and there’s just still those minute traces, like 0.31, you know what I mean? But they count. So I still just have to be very careful and very smart, you know what I mean?”
Because of that, the OTC said he isn’t interested in taking unnecessary risks with treatments he doesn’t fully understand.
“So, yeah, I have not—I would say, for me, and this is someone who doesn’t have enough knowledge on it, peptides: overrated.”
While Reigns’ comments make it clear he’s still managing his leukemia on a daily basis, they also show he’s keeping it under control. Even with minute traces of CML remaining, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion continues to compete at the highest level while staying cautious about anything that could affect his health.
