The Rock has conquered WWE and Hollywood. Now he might be coming for country music too, with Dwayne Johnson revealing he’s actively exploring another major career move.
While speaking with Rolling Stone, Dwayne Johnson revealed that he is actively exploring a move into music, with traditional country music sitting right at the center of what he wants to do.
“I’m exploring that now, and I appreciate you asking that. As you roll along in life, I’ve been real fortunate to be part of some really cool projects, and love it. But music has always been such an anchor for me, and very specifically in genres that I love, like country music, traditional country music, and we’re exploring that now.”
This wouldn’t exactly be The Rock wandering into completely unfamiliar territory. He’s already shown off his singing voice through Moana, while music has remained a major part of his life away from wrestling and acting.
At this stage of his career, though, Johnson sounds less interested in adding another box to his résumé and more interested in chasing projects he actually feels personally connected to.
“I’ve reached this point in my life and in my career where, honestly, Brian, when I wake up in the morning, I swing my legs out of bed, and whatever the thing is that I’m doing, I wanna feel like I’m just running towards it, and the most gratifying things we do are when it’s for us, because we have enough pressure to deliver for so many other entities.”
He’s already started putting some of that feeling into music. Johnson spoke about recording a song for his daughters and said the biggest difference was not having to worry about the numbers that usually follow everything he does.
“The things we do, we must do them for ourselves, and then we must feel it in here, behind our ribcage. But they’re also always connected to some sort of commerce. You make films, especially the big four-quadrant movies, you want them to do well. But this song, for me, is just a song to my daughters. Where there’s no pressure of an expectation to deliver something that, ‘Well, how are the sales, and how’s the box office? How’s the streams?’ It’s just from me to them.”
The Rock isn’t announcing an album or trading Hollywood for Nashville just yet. But after wrestling, successful movies and Moana, he’s now openly exploring country music as another chapter—and apparently this one is less about becoming another massive success and more about doing something he actually wants to do.
