Ricky Saints made his debut on the February 11 episode of NXT, surprising both fans and wrestlers. His arrival happened just days after AEW removed him from their roster page. Saints has a lot to prove to his doubters, and that’s why it comes as no surprise he has denied claims that he is difficult to work with in wrestling.
While speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Ricky Saints was asked if he felt misunderstood in wrestling. Saints stated he is a very passionate person, and some people don’t know how to handle that. When they see his energy and aren’t ready for it, they misunderstand him and call him difficult.
“I mean, to be honest with you, I feel like I’m a very passionate person, and sometimes people aren’t used to raw emotion. They don’t know how to handle it because they’ve never dealt with it before. When that kind of high energy comes at them, and they’re not ready for it, they misunderstand me. They see me as difficult.”
Saints explained that people say things about him that aren’t true, but once they actually talk to him and understand his side, everything makes sense. He believes that most problems come from a lack of explanation. If someone is seen as having bad behavior, he feels that explaining their actions can change that view. The same goes for being called difficult—once people understand the reasons behind it, their opinion might change.
“If someone says I’m difficult, it’s just because a lot of things have been said about me that aren’t true. But once you actually sit down, talk, and understand where I’m coming from, it all makes sense. All people need is a real explanation. If someone is labeled as having ‘bad behavior,’ let me explain why they’re doing X, Y, and Z—boom, they’re no longer seen as having bad behavior. If someone is called ‘difficult,’ let me explain why you might think that and what’s really happening. Explanation always solves the problem.”
Saints added that being misunderstood in wrestling is terrible, but he won’t let others decide how he should see himself. He is proud of what he has done and what he will achieve in the future. He believes he has worked hard and deserves to be confident.
“Being misunderstood in wrestling is terrible, but as you’ve seen, I don’t buy into it. I will not let someone else tell me how I should see myself. Who are you to decide that? I should be proud of what I’ve done and what I’m going to accomplish. I should shout it from the mountaintops because I’m the one putting in the work.
I didn’t bust my ass just to listen to someone say, ‘Hey, you think too highly of yourself—simmer down.’ Screw you. Screw everything about that mindset. Where I’m going, I’m going to surpass anything you’ve ever done. That’s how I feel.”
Reflecting on his experiences, he mentioned that even on the independent scene, he dealt with people who tried to hold him back, but he didn’t let negativity affect him. Saints encourages others to believe in themselves and not let anyone tell them to tone down their confidence.
“Even on the indies, I dealt with this. People who had done something before me tried to hold me back, but it never changes, and that’s okay. I’m not here to throw anyone under the bus or say, ‘Well, Ricky was told he was too…’ No. What I’m saying is for anyone—if you think highly of yourself, I am so proud of you. Because you made it to a point where you love yourself enough to know your abilities, to know what you want, and to know where you’re going. Who is anyone to tell you, ‘Hey, calm down’? Screw you, man.”
Ricky Saints has started his NXT career and wants to prove his critics wrong. Next week, he will team up with Je’Von Evans to face Ethan Page and Wes Lee in a tag team match. Fans are excited to see how he does in his first match, as he is 100% determined to become a big star in NXT.
