Ric Flair’s name carries weight—and so does his face. Whether he’s grabbing dinner or catching a flight, the Nature Boy can’t go far without someone stopping him.
During a recent conversation with Clay Edwards, Flair opened up about what it’s like living in the constant spotlight, with fans eager for photos and attention no matter where he goes.
Clay brought up the intense level of recognition Flair faces and asked whether that kind of nonstop attention is something he enjoys.
“It’s like a day in the life. I get a little… just that little smidgen of people knowing who I am around here. I can’t fathom being you and not being able to go anywhere without being asked for pictures and people thinking they know you, living vicariously through your character. What is it like being you? Do you enjoy it?”
Flair responded with a mix of honesty and appreciation, making it clear that, for the most part, his experience with fans is overwhelmingly positive.
“Living the gimmick has not always been the ideal way to live. I forgot to pay my taxes a couple years—living the gimmick. I don’t have a problem. 99% of everybody I meet now is nice. You’re only once in a while going to find somebody that’s either drunk or, you know, wants to be too familiar—and like, I don’t like people coming up and putting their arm around me if I’m not aware of it and stuff like that. But otherwise, I mean, like Martins’s last night, everybody was so damn nice. I mean, over the top guys, and that’s pretty much what I experience everywhere I go. People are very friendly.”
Even after all these years, Ric Flair remains larger than life—and fans still show up in droves to share a moment with the wrestling legend.
