When you’re rolling with The Nature Boy, don’t even think about picking up the tab — it’s not just unnecessary, it’s offensive.

Jim Ross recently recalled a wild night out in Atlanta with Ric Flair during a segment on Partying with The Nature Boy and the full story paints the perfect picture of Flair’s legendary generosity and flair for extravagance.

It all went down in Buckhead, Georgia, back in 1988. “Louise said, ‘You should live in Buckhead. A single guy like you should live in Buckhead.’ That was 1988. I was a whopping 33 years old. I had so much fun there. Buckhead was the place to be,” JR said, reminiscing about the era of TV tapings and post-show nightlife.

Flair and JR decided to hit the Buckhead Diner after one of those shows. “TV was over early and he had… let’s say four—for safety’s sake—four models that he did use in a bit,” JR joked. Flair even managed to “finagle to keep the limo they used in a shoot… to take us to the Buckhead Diner.”

With Flair, JR, and four women, they had a party of six — but what happened next became legendary.

“The highest thing on the menu at that time, as far as the entrée, was $19.95. Twenty bucks… but the tab was $2,100,” JR said, still shocked. “How in the hell did we accumulate a $2,100 tab plus tip? And knowing him, he was offering $2,500, you know? Sure.”

But here’s where the story really shows how Flair operates: you better not even think about pitching in.

“If you offer, ‘Can I pay for it? Can I help pay for it? Can I get the tip?’ That’s offensive to him,” JR explained. “Yeah, of course. Everybody was on his dime.”

And yes, the champagne was flowing like tap water. “He was my Don Perignon guy… like goddamn diet limeade from Sonic.”

That’s the world according to Ric Flair: if you’re sitting at his table, you’re not paying — and don’t insult him by trying.
