Ric Flair claims WWE had to shut down John Cena’s wild nights out with him after things got a little too out of hand overseas.
During his appearance on the Glory Days podcast with Johnny Manziel, Flair dropped a story that perfectly sums up his legendary nightlife—and how Cena got caught up in it.
The two were paired up on a WWE tour through Europe, and according to Flair, the drinks were flowing and the bar tabs kept climbing. Cena, then rising as the face of WWE, tried to keep up with The Nature Boy.
“We went on a tour in Europe and he spent 10 grand, and I had to spend equal amount on a 12-day tour… just drinking.”
That kind of partying didn’t sit well with Vince McMahon. Flair says WWE management stepped in to cut it off before things got too far for their top guy.
“So Vince called him in and said, ‘Look, I know Flair’s fun to be with, but we gotta cut this off. If you’re going to be the flagship of our company, you can’t hang around Flair.’”
Flair, of course, didn’t take offense. It’s not the first time WWE had to protect their investment from his influence—and probably not the last.
Whether it’s wild nights, Rolexes lost in spaghetti, or being the reason behind a Cena intervention, Flair’s stories keep proving why his legacy is larger than life.
Should WWE have let Cena keep partying with Flair, or was the company right to pull the plug before it spiraled? Share your thoughts below and let us know whose side you’re on.
