Rey Mysterio has pulled off some of the most memorable moves in wrestling history, but one fan-favorite finisher quietly disappeared years ago. Now we finally know why.
Speaking on Chicos Tóxicos, the WWE Hall of Famer revealed that he stopped using his signature diving seated senton after the 619 because the move ultimately helped lead to the knee injury that required surgery.
When asked whether he still had the move in his arsenal, Mysterio admitted he’ll only use it under the right circumstances. He then revealed it’s been years since fans last saw it.
“I tell you what… I do it with people that I can certainly trust. The last time I did it was probably when… Andrade was for WWE… four years ago.”
The reason had nothing to do with age or confidence. According to Mysterio, the repeated impact from landing the move put so much stress on his knee that it eventually caught up with him.
“That move is what got the surgery. Every time I would land, if I wasn’t guided properly, I would land and then my knee would give in. So that’s what caused the ACL to tear…”
The diving seated senton became one of the signature moments of Rey Mysterio matches for years, but after hearing what it did to his body, it’s easy to understand why fans don’t see it very often anymore.
Do you think Rey Mysterio should bring the move back for one last big match, or is it better left in the past? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
