Joe Hendry hasn’t been seen on WWE television lately, but his absence apparently has nothing to do with creative having nothing for him. Instead, Hendry has been busy working on a new project outside the wrestling ring.
According to PWInsider, Hendry has been working on the first project connected to WWE’s recently announced partnership with ReelShort. Hendry is filming a role in a live-action microdrama that is being produced specifically for mobile platforms. Details surrounding the story and exactly what kind of character Hendry will be playing have not been revealed. The project appears to explain why Hendry has been missing from WWE programming after receiving plenty of television time heading into SummerSlam.
Before disappearing from television, Hendry was involved in a segment alongside Danhausen that also featured Judgment Day members Dominik Mysterio and JD McDonagh, as well as boxer Ryan Garcia.
WWE’s partnership with ReelShort is designed around short-form scripted entertainment made for mobile viewing, and Hendry is now involved in the first project coming out of that deal.
There is currently no timetable for Hendry’s WWE television return, but his absence appears to be tied to filming rather than an indication that WWE has moved away from using him. With Hendry working on a WWE-related project away from the ring, fans will now have to wait and see when he pops back up on television and what his ReelShort role ends up looking like.
