Ralphus apparently thought Chris Jericho’s jump from WCW to WWF came with a plus-one — and that plus-one was him.
Perry Saturn told a wild story on his podcast about Jericho’s famous WCW sidekick and claimed Ralphus genuinely believed he was heading to WWF right alongside Y2J. This wasn’t just Ralphus joking around either. According to Saturn, he actually walked up during a conversation about Jericho’s move and wanted to know when Vince McMahon’s lawyer would be contacting his lawyer.
Ralphus originally entered the picture after Jericho spotted him working as a WCW driver. Saturn said Jericho immediately saw something entertaining and decided he needed to get Ralphus on television.
“Chris is really creative, and he’s got all this stupid shit that he likes to do. He introduces me to fucking Ralphus. Ralphus was a driver for WCW, and Chris, walking through, seeing him, said, ‘Oh, I’m getting him on TV for sure.’ And Chris got him, and then he was with Chris.”
Things apparently got a little too real for Ralphus after that. Saturn said Jericho’s move to WWF was already a done deal when the two were discussing what was coming next. Ralphus walked into the conversation and apparently assumed his own WWF deal was part of the plan.
“When Chris and I were talking about him going to WWF, you know, and it was a done deal, it was going to happen, Ralphus was so fucking delusional. Me and Chris are talking, he comes right up to Chris and he goes, ‘So, what’s going to happen? Is Vince’s lawyer going to contact my lawyer?’ Ralphus thought he was going to WWF with Chris.”
Jericho then had to break the news that there was no WWF contract waiting for Ralphus. Saturn claimed Ralphus was actually upset because he had started viewing himself as a legitimate star after appearing alongside Jericho on WCW television.
“Chris had to explain to him that he was insignificant. He was really outraged. Ralphus believed he was a big star. Like he was the hand that rocked the cradle, he thought. It’s just so ridiculous.”
Jericho ultimately left WCW for WWF in 1999 without Ralphus, but the idea that Ralphus was sitting there waiting for Vince McMahon’s legal team to start negotiating his deal makes the story even better. What started as Jericho putting a random WCW driver on television apparently ended with Ralphus believing he was part of the package.
