R-Truth definitely got fans interested when he adopted a more serious character earlier this year, but he ultimately went back to his comedy routine recently. Following this change, Truth has now explained why he won’t go back to being a serious character.

While speaking on The Rap on Wrestling podcast, R-Truth was asked if he would ever have a proper run as a serious character, leading to him eventually winning a World Title in WWE.

Truth said fans have already seen him be serious before, like when he was Ron “The Truth” Killings and during the Little Jimmy storyline. Many people want him to be WWE World Heavyweight Champion, but he feels his biggest win came outside of WWE, when over a hundred million people around the world showed him love, empathy, and support.

“You’ve had a serious Truth. What more do you want from me? And listen, let me say this on that — yeah, yeah, we’ve had the serious Truth. Ron ‘The Truth’ Killings. We had the serious Truth with the Little Jimmy. We’ve had the serious Truth. Everybody wants to see me with that WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

And I think that’s when they feel like they’ve seen it — that’s what everybody wants to see. What sold me? What brought the Suntan Superman back? What gave me my championship that’s bigger than any championship I could get at WWE? Over a hundred million people worldwide showed interest, showed empathy, showed concern.”

Truth called himself the real People’s Champion and said that at 53 years old, he’s more popular than ever. He’s had many different characters and storylines, but those millions of fans connected with the version of him that made them feel something special. For him, there’s no need to change what’s already working.

“I am the real definition of the People’s Champ. I don’t need nothing, bro. Yeah. So I think at 53, I’m more popular than I’ve ever been in my life. And I’ve had so many different character changes, so many different levels and layers taken off. But those hundred million people fell in love and supported that guy that made them feel every feeling they wanted to feel. Why? Hot right now, baby. Why reinvent the wheel, you feel me?”

This comes after R-Truth returned to his comedy gimmick after having a memorable segment with John Cena on the August 8th edition of SmackDown, even though people really weren’t happy about it. Regardless, fans just have to accept Truth won’t be a serious character again and that’s not going to change.

Do you think R-Truth could still have a successful serious run, or is his comedic persona the best fit for him now? Sound off in the comments.
