The pro wrestling world is mourning the death of Dolly Parton. After the legendary singer, songwriter and actress passed away at 80 years old, Ric Flair, Adam Pearce and AJ Francis were among the wrestling names paying their respects.
Ric Flair took to Twitter and remembered Parton as the “Queen of Country Music,” while making it clear he had been a huge fan for years. He also sent his condolences to Dolly Parton’s friends and family.
“I’m So Sad To Hear About The Passing Of The Queen Of Country Music, @DollyParton! I Was A Huge Fan Of Her Music. As A Boy, I Could Only Dream! Rest In Peace Dolly! My Condolences To The Friends & Family Of The Legendary Dolly Parton! 🙏🏻”
WWE RAW General Manager Adam Pearce kept his message short: “Godspeed, Legend. ❤️🙏” AJ Francis took to Twitter and also joined in: “RIP Dolly 🙏” It’s not surprising since Parton actually had a little wrestling history of her own. Road Dogg also took to Twitter and paid tribute to Dolly Parton, as he wrote:
“RIP Dolly You were an entertainer’s entertainer, one of the last of a generation of legendary talents.”
During the 1980s, she crossed paths with Hulk Hogan for the wrestling-themed “Headlock on My Heart” music video. The video was featured on one of Parton’s television specials and put Hogan right alongside one of the biggest names in country music.
So seeing wrestling names remembering Parton isn’t completely out of left field. Long before social media tributes, she had already stepped into wrestling’s world during the height of Hulkamania and had some fun with it herself. Parton’s family announced her death on August 25 after she had been dealing with undisclosed health issues. She was 80 years old.
Parton spent decades leaving her mark on just about every corner of entertainment, and wrestling managed to become one small part of that story too. Now the same world she once had some fun with is joining millions of others in saying goodbye.
