Mickie James hasn’t been a regular fixture on TNA television lately, and now there’s some context on why.

During a PWInsider Q&A, Mike Johnson was asked what happened to James after she made several TNA appearances earlier this year and was attacked on stage. Johnson noted that James has been working on music, while also suggesting TNA may simply be using her selectively.

“I know she has been working on music, but it may be a case of the company using her sparingly so the appearances mean more. I do not believe she is signed with TNA. After she was attacked, she did the hardcore six woman tag with ODB and Taryn Terrell, so she did appear after that.”

That answer clears up one key detail: Johnson does not believe James is currently signed to TNA. It also suggests her absence may not be tied to selling the attack, since she did appear afterwards.

James last competed at TNA Rebellion in April 2026, where she teamed with ODB and Taryn Terrell in a hardcore six-woman tag team match. The trio lost to Ash By Elegance, Heather By Elegance, and M By Elegance.

For now, it sounds like Mickie James’ TNA appearances are being treated more like special attractions than a full-time run. With her music work also in the mix, TNA may be keeping her appearances limited so they feel bigger whenever she does return.
